I have Joe Rockets (came semi-permanently mounted on the XX, purchased used) but Cortech make nice soft bags, and a bit bigger I think.

Re: Whats a good set of soft bags for the XX?

This response if of course very limited based on "real world" testing on real product. My experiance gives a shout out to Cortec. I've got a complete set of the standard Cortec saddle bags with the add on tail bag. The system is well thought out and the three piece set snaps into eash other with an integral system of snaps and clips. They supply aux straps the enable a loop type connection to the chassis that should fit most bikes. My current "standard" Cortec system was installed on 1983 CB1100-F Super Sport. Based on this performance I agumented my Hondaline hardbag install with a Cortec "Sport" bike tail bag. The idea here was to force myself to reduce the amount of gear I hauld over the road. The Sprot Bag set up is reduced in available volume as compared to the standard bag set,..at least I think. For sure the Sport tail bag is of reduced volume. That said it works well with my Hondaline hard saddle bag set up and offers up a place for the bulk of those "must have access to" items like: Ipod, glove changes, rain gear, maps, toilet paper, more maps, wallet, etc etc. They come with a rain cover as they are not water proof,..this I assume is due to the zippers. Atttachement options are good enough to attached to most bikes. I you so choise to do a stand alone install with only the supplied hardware and straps I think there will be some movement of the bags around on the bike. Choise in the how and why's of your install will produce different results of course. One item to be aware of, regardless of brand purchased, is the rub and scuff effects of the install. With out a doubt you can damage body and paint dependent on install technique. I find that when "on tour" that a couple small squares of duct tape at key points will nullify the effects of bungee abrasion on the xx body panels, for at least a ten day tour. Can't state strongly enough the idea about packing. It will take time but you'll find that much of what you take may not be needed. I invite others to chime in on that side topic. More space is good...but reduced loading will leave room for those |"Hooters" T-shirts you may pick up along the way.

HTH,

Tony

Ventura bags for me - had the zip-together system for 8 years and they're superb. Aerodynamic too. See: Motorcycle luggage, hard soft motorcycle luggage, racks, touring luggage | Ventura and my pics. There are some more pics of my bags here: Tank Protection Pad. (Post 12)

Cheers,

Geoff

My Rjays bag sits comfortably on the back off mine at $2.40 constantly,
Never moves, it clips on at the base, It would have to rip both clips off and tear the pocket it sits in, totally off before it fell off, and then it would fall off the back of the bike, Exceptionally unlikely that it would get into the back wheel, and you can see it in both mirrors, so if it started to fall sideways, you would see it and could stop and fix it long before it gave you grief,I am very pleased with the bag and it is good quality as well.
Jammed in the back wheel would have given you a big fright, Glad it was you and not me. Hahahahaha
Cheers,
Brian.

Nelson Rigg

CL-1000 Standard Saddlebags with CL-150 Expandable Sport Tail Pack.

The tail pack clips onto the saddle bags, it's pretty cool. they seem durable and were on the less expensive side compared to some others i was looking at.
(that's on the PCH by the way 3500 mile ride, 8 days)

Re: Whats a good set of soft bags for the XX?

I have two bikes one with hard top box ( on the XX ) and a Ventura rally bag on my FZR 1000. Both are excellent and I cant fault either one. I'd go with Ventura for a soft bag option. You wont go wrong there. Cheers.
