Topcase and stability on the Bird

I have a Givi Maxia topcase (52L) on another bike and am thinking of putting a rack to accomodate this topcase on the Bird.

The thing is, this topcase is big, the biggest that Givi makes. It definitely affects how my other bike handles, especially in cross winds. I'm wondering what other people's experiences are on the Bird with a topcase. I'd hate to ruin the beautiful stability of the Bird, especially at high speeds. I mean, isn't that why we ride them?

On another note, what rack and plate do people recommend? I want something that is an easy install and does not involve any modification of the fairing, etc. Basically, just a bolt on unit. Thanks for the help.

Re: Topcase and stability on the Bird

I've had 2 side cases and a top one on with no trouble but, found that with only a top one the bike is more inclined to weave slightly when slowing down if both hands aren't on the bars.
Nothing too dramatic but, if I have to only have one case on I put it on the side which being lower and further forward doesn't affect the stability at all.
I have the wingrack but, only fit it when I know I need to use the hard luggage on many trips a tailpack or Kriega R35 backpack suit me better - no increase in width when it comes to filtering in traffic

Re: Topcase and stability on the Bird

I use a topcase (Givi V46) and I don't really notice any handling issues. But i do have upgraded suspension front & rear and that likely helps. I use the Givi mono-rack(F248) for the XX, works great and is easy to take off and on. Like steveb, I also have the wing-rack for a 3-case setup, but only install it when I go on road trips.
