Re: What's your helmet brand?

People with good taste and money buy OGK's.

I just bought an OGK FF5 straight from Japan.

Around $400 for the one I got and it came with a clear and a light smoke visor plus some light smoke tear-offs.

The FF5 is a work of art, fits perfectly, vents almost as good as a baseball cap, and is steady as a rock with very little resistance even turned sideways to the wind.

I can't imagine a better helmet out there at any price range.

None of this matters if you ride a black, red, or blue bike because you're not going down on anything but your sister.

Yep tried one on at a MC show last year and as I have an OGK Aeroblade II already I thought this sounded good as it was much like the AEB II but lighter and with better ventilation

Will be my next helmet I reckon

Just keep in mind that more weight on your head means a lot more strain on your neck (bad!) if you ever happen to go down. Speed being constant, increasing weight will increase the momentum. More momentum that needs to be absorbed somewhere, and the styrofoam in the helmet can only do so much.

I'm still alive because of a Shoei...I'm not usually much of a brand loyalist, but I haven't been able to put anything else on my head since.

I put something else on my head lol

I picked up an HJC ISO-Max; pleasant bonus is that rather than fiberglass, it's a polycarbonate shell. PC is supposedly the mark of "lesser" helmets, but I think it's actually much better for impact energy dispersion.

Re: What's your helmet brand?

I recently picked up a Shoei RF 1000 in the exact color scheme Id been looking for and with a reflective tint visor on Craigslist for $125. It was in perfect shape and it is my new favorite helmet.

Its really not that giant of a leap over the old HJC I had. I really enjoyed that helmet but I cant remember the model and it got stolen. After experiancing both I cant say i can really justify the price differnce, but my budget is tight.

I have a few others too, most notable is one from AFX. Id never heard of them before, but I was browsing the dealership and found it. Someone had ordered one and the company shipped the wrong color, so the dealership let me have it for only $80! It fits okay and has little electric fans in the chinbar and LEDS inside the visor so you can see the ignition at night! It is kinda heavy though, and when you look sideways at all the screen opens, and it doesnt have anything to hold the excess chin strap so you have to loop it, but still the novelty of the fans and lights is worth $80 !

Re: What's your helmet brand?

I just bought a new RF 1000 in Anaheim on my trip to the USA last week. Glossy black with an extra tinted visor thrown in. Black seems to go with most things so I got it. I wanted a blue one but they didnt have one there at the time. Anyway Shoei is the only helmet that will fit my big head so Shoei it is.

I went from an AGV air tech to an OGK FF5 scream about a year ago, and love it. Logoman your description is spot on!

Re: What's your helmet brand?

Are these OGK's available in the U.S.? I'm just picking up on this thread again.

I've got an Arai, and I feel like a bad-ass owning it, but seriously, I'm not that impressed. My Shoei was just as comfortable and worked comparably (Shoei RF800 at the time versus an Arai Quantum II now). The Arai whistles horribly with the visor up. I wear sunglasses instead of having a tinted visor, and in slower traffic I ride with the visor open a lot to maximize cooling. Can't STAND the whistle. I suppose a different windscreen on the bike might help too, but for now I either try to ignore it or tip my head forward a bit to change how the air hits it.

That said, I know Arai puts a lot of thought into the shape of the helmet for the crash they hope won't happen. I was watching a show about the Arai family. They really think about their vents and so on. They don't like things protruding from the helmet that could catch on the ground and wrench the rider's neck.

When I look at some of the really "cool" helmets out there that look like something out of a sci-fi movie, I wonder how they'd perform in an accident. I'd rather not find out.

Ah! but you have the fastest color bike. Hope the black doesn't slow you down, I find the black on my helmet tries to pull me backwards but the small amount of blue manages to counteract it

I have 2 OGKs, FF3 and FF4.. also have Arai RX7 FF4s as winter helmet when I wear a liner.
I like the OGKs because they are lightweight, I like to carry as little weight as possible on my head/neck.

I really want to get one of these

Re: What's your helmet brand?

Shoei use to be it. After getting a Arai RX7. Arai will prolly be all I ever buy.
Shoei is quieter but weighs more. I will deal with the noise of an Arai for the fit & light weight.

"HJC AC-12 Carbon Fiber. Its the only brand I've found that fits well and I love the light weight. Fit and finish as good as anything I've seen".

Tim

I just today finished with the customizing of my HJC Carbon fiber. It's painted to match my custom '03 XX. I also have two other HJC helmets and my wife has one too. Can't beat 'em for the price.

Re: What's your helmet brand?

You know buying bike gear is an addiction. There always seems to be something nicer, newer better. I have an Arai and a Shoei , but my new love is the Suomy Spec 1R. I now have two so I don't wear one out. Very lightweight and super comfortable. The only draw back is they are noisey. To enjoy many years of life and riding you should make ear plugs part of your riding gear anyway.

Yep. I have a pretty nice collection. 4 Arai, several Shoei, FM, a Suomy also.
My favorite Arai, used in the production of Ghost Rider. It dont go with green.
