Help with Vista Cruise Control Install

OK my fellow rider I am trying to install a Vista Cruise Control on my XX. I followed the instructions per this site with shaving down the ring around the throttle and drilling a hole and putting a screw into the switch housing.
The problem is that the Vista cruise will not stay engaged. I thought I adjusted it correctly with play in the throttle and it locks the thottle for a minute then just pops back. I did not put a hand grip on the throttle housing yet. I want to make sure this thing works. thanks in advance.
Any thoughts?

I don't want to say to myself you get what you pay for.

Re: Help with Vista Cruise Control Install

I just installed the same gizmo a couple weeks ago and had the same problem. I'll try to explain what I did which was a fairly simple fix but I apologize in advance if I don't explain it well in writing.

On the thumb latch piece that you press to lock the throttle there is a flat spot that is supposed to stay pressed against the ring when you engage it. On mine, the flat spot wasn't flat enough so I sanded it down flatter and increased the angle ever so slightly so there would be a more positive engagement of the two parts. It didn't take much and I made sure I sanded it on a flat surface as not to increase the problem by rounding it off.

Hopefully if you look at it closely this will make sense. I used 200 grit sandpaper and it worked like a charm.

Re: Help with Vista Cruise Control Install

G'day. I'm working down at the gong tomorrow and was wondering does anyone know the size of the 04 BB handlebars? I want to get the vista cruise control thingy. Not sure how to tell if the are 1" or 7/8

Thanks in advance

Just kidding... I'm 99% certain that they are 7/8". BTW, check out Brake-Away cruise control before buying a Vista unit. They don't make one specific to the BB, but my dealer has succesfully installed one on a 'Bird and says it very minor mods.
