Givi wingrack n141 vs n140

Just got my first Blackbird but I still have my Givi cases and rack from my old bike (ZX11). I found the mounting hardware kit for the bird (y158), but came across something unexpected - there are two wingrack kits (n140 and n141) and I seem to have the wrong one (n141).

The only difference I can see is that n140 has built in turn signals, which is recommended for the Blackbird. I cannot find add-on turn signals for n141 - at least not ones by Givi and I would really like to avoid spending extra $200 to buy a complete rack I already have.

Has anyone else run into this? Any suggestions? Ideas? Will the Wingrack really obscure the turn signals on the blackbird or can I get away with n141?

Thanks.

HH

I installed my Givi in '02 and I don't know if there have been changes. It came with replacement turn signals b/c the rack and bags do obscure the turn signals. I'd have to go searching for the #'s of the rack.

I contacted Givi, and they gave me part numbers for just the turn signals - Z145L and Z145R. Funny thing is, these do not appear on Givi's or any other site I have browsed, but as soon as I searched one of the online dealer's site by part number, they came right up. Go figure.

Thanks

Re: Givi wingrack n141 vs n140

if you remove the rubber stalk on the factory signals to shorten them, the wingrack will fit without removing them. However, they're not visible at all from the side of the bike, only directly behind. I chose to do both sets of signals, both for visibility and because I take the rack off/on frequently enough where I don't want to mess with taking the signals off and on every time. I just put a trailer wiring style connector under the seat that connects all the lights (signals and stop light) to the rack when I install it. So anyways, it's really a matter of preference. 2 sets of signals looks a tad goofy, but no one ever wonders if I'm turning

I was going to post a question regarding these 2 wing racks from Givi. Glad I found this thread. Could you folks that have them installed tell me exactly how they attach. Any extra drilling? Do you need the original rear fender as a secondary anchor point? All on line pics I can locate do not show enough detail. Thanks

It did not seem right even as I was bolting it on, but it worked out great in the end. There was no drilling on the Blackbird (unlike ZX11), and instructions, though somewhat terse, were right on the money. all in all, it worked out great once I got the turn signals (wiring was the biggest issue, really wish they had proper connectors to just plug in).

If you want, i can take a few pics with my phone but it may take a day or two. Let me know what exactly you want to see.

k, here they are. The rack mounts at 3 points on each side. 1 is where the tail pipe is attached to the passenger footpeg arm(see bb-3.jpg) and the other 2 are where the rear handle is attached(see bb-1.jpg). All of those are existing holes - no drilling required.

Re: Givi wingrack n141 vs n140

Thanks. I've searched the web and found one good picture posted by an individual owner who mounted a Givi Wingrack. There is a brace that is included that bolts to both sides of the lower rear sections of the rack. These wingracks are square tube shape diecast and include a new location for the rear directionals which is my first concern. The current pyramid hugger has a bright led tail light but small, hard to see directionals. I think I would be able to wire the new directional lights in conjunction with the small hugger directional lights and use all four.

Also, if you visit, www.twistedthrottle.com you can purchase led lighting kit that turns the bags, red reflectors into running lights, turn signals, and brake lites along with the givi turn signals. All integrated into the 460 top bag brake lite. spendy but a huge safety addition. imo
