|I use a tank camera mount on all of our long distance rides.
My camera is a Sony Handicam DCR-DVD608E. The results are great. The only problem is that the sound of a Bird engine at 7000 to 8000 for long periods of time on playback can be a bit defening. I haven't found out how to switch off sound on the camera, so just turn the sound down on the TV or computer.
The mount bolts onto the outer ring of the fuel filler cap on the XX which then gives a brilliant view of the speedo and the road. I have a smoked "double bubble" screen, and even this does not effect the quality of the recording at all.
A friend of mine sent me the mount from Germany where he lives. I can reccommend it to anyone.

Do you know the model no of the mount... I would like to check it out.
I'm going to pick up a cam tonight and would like to put the order in for the mount asap. I've watched alot of youtube videos with tank cams and would love to put a couple up.
Thanks for the post

That just happened in Oregon, last month I think. Dude gets nailed flying down I-5, cop notices that he has a camera aimed at his speedo. It gets siezed as evidence, police get search warrant and the view the tape that has him going 164 indicated
I guess he could say that the speedo is off, but by how much

I run the gamut on camera mounts on cars and bikes and use these guys to find what I need. The digital still was shot with the 4.5" mount found on that page. The six inch cups won't mount on the tank, but I triangulate them into a mount that will hold up to 150 lbs for an HD or 16mm camera.

I use a RAM mounting system from my handlebar. I have a RAM ball with a 45 degree base with a 9mm hole that is bolted onto the right clip-on (there is plenty of thread left on the bolt to still fully grip the clip-on). I use a 3" arm and 2.5" round base with a ball attached to the underside of the camera. I find it works really well.
I can't get the speedo into frame (which is probably a good thing - no incrimination) and it looks over the top of my tacho through the double bubble screen. I have a smoked tint screen and you cannot notice it. As far as stability goes, as long as I don't try and mount it too high, the picture is very stable. I am looking at getting a 1.75" arm that would possibly remove any instability issues.
BigBirdSA - to cut down on wind/engine noise, I use a small bit of electrical tape over the microphone (I have a very basic JVC digital camera). This still allows some of the engine and exhaust noise through, without being too over the top.
My two cents worth - I hope it helps...
Cheers,
Eddie.

Take a look at TechMount TECHMOUNT - Home they have a package that replaces the center tripple tree bolt and mounts there. Saw them at the indy show this spring. really nice stuff, and more secure than the Ram mounts.

If it costs $100 American it cost me nearly $130. No more buying on line for awhile. But, I'd like a helmet cam. The site didn't open for me.
