Tail Bag Suggestions

Hi all. I'm in the market for a nice little tail/seat bag. I have a givi setup but it's a little much for local riding. I also have a bagster bag but I prefer not to have it so full that it doubles as a chin rest I'm looking for a bag just big enough to carry my rainsuit and a fleece, that type of thing. I'm pretty familiar with most of the luggage out there but I wonder if anyone has found one that is particularly well suited for the XX, with that super wide rear cowl and close-to-the-seat rear frankenbolts, seems like it could be hard to get one to mount easily without messing with the paint. My best probable candidate right now is the Cortech Sport Tail Bag, and it's nice and cheap too.

I was looking at Givi's soft tail bag too, looks nice.. and suspiciously similar to the Firstgear Silverstone series, is there some collaberation between these two companies?

So let me know if you have any good ones that you'd suggest, thanks!

Re: Tail Bag Suggestions

yes they are, maybe I should not have sold that to you glad to hear it survived your get-off. Yeah I'm just looking for a little tie-on bag for this application, nothing too fancy or expensive.

Re: Tail Bag Suggestions

Can't beat the Tourmaster TB-17 Tail Bag. I've had one for years. Used it on my VFR and now on the BB. Just put some clear tape on the passenger grab handle or it will scuff the paint there. Bungee hooks fit fine. Cheap too.
The only drawback that I've found is that it tends to fade rather quickly. A can of Duplicolor black Vinyl/Fabric dye fixes that.

Marsee makes a great little tail bag. Just the ticket for carrying the little extra stuff and it is expandable enough to hold a weekend's worth of stuff. 3 external pockets so you can stay organized.

OOOO! tell me more about the Duplicolor stuff. My RKA tail bag is gray instead of black.

Where to buy and how to apply.

yeah they make nice stuff, I sold my Humpback saddlebags when I bought Givi luggage... if they weren't so expensive I'd probably have ordered one already, they seem to make very nice stuff. Does it mount on the XX pretty easily or did you have to modify the straps/hooks a little?

Re: Tail Bag Suggestions

I'm sort of wondering about a cruiser backrest bag to use with my corbin backrest, makes for a nice secure mount. Not one of those big boxy things, just something like this Kuryakyn one. I think the leather areas would go nicely with the Bagster. I also like this T-Bag one, but not as stylish as the other. Am I a loser for considering a cruiser bag? They're both a little more than I wanted to spend, but it could still work out.

It's got 4 loops on each side and comes with some Oxford bungees. Not an ingenious mounting system, but I can't seem to shake it loose.

Wal-Mart, Auto Zone, Advance. Just follow the instructions on the can.

Re: Tail Bag Suggestions

Wolfman Tail Bag is the one I use on the Bird, great bag but maybe more than you want.

Really well made and expandable, right amount of pockets in the right spots.

The Oxford Humpback I had was great but not quite enough roon for me,gave it to a friend.

I'd go with the Humpback for a tidy little tail bag

that's a pretty slick looking back, I thought I had seen them all. Thanks for the link, I may consider trying one of these out- I like the clean simple install. Does it come with a rain cover? I didn't notice mention of one on the site.

Re: Tail Bag Suggestions

Back when I had mine in 2002-2003 they didn't, but they had plans to make rain covers at some point. Not sure if they ever went through with it. I sprayed some of that waterproofing stuff on mine and that was fine for anything less than a downpour. All the zippers have the little flaps over them, which helps.

Re: Tail Bag Suggestions

well I went to the shop today with my bike and looked at a bunch or different ones they had in stock, trying them on the bike. It turns out a nice little $50 Nelson Riggs bag was just the ticket. It has a pouch on the back the slides perfectly over my corbin backrest, not even needing any straps. Thanks for all your input everyone, all great suggestions.l
