Seen the benefits of protective kit over the years but its up to individuals to determine their own. Full kit for track days, full kit for cooler road runs but hey, riding the Bonneville to the beach in summer wearing shorts, thongs and no helment was stupid but fun

Just a little correction re "Thongs" "Flip Flops" or "Japanese Flying boots" All the same. Over here 'Thongs' are footwear. Red ones for fishin and black ones (formal) for taking the missus out.

I used to ride around in summer in tank top & shorts when I had my old bikes 13+ years ago but NEVER wore thongs (flip flops to you yanks) always joggers minimum .
Now make sure I have my vented JRAE jacket and Draggin's

Hmmm, an interesting poll. After looking at you tube videos and episodes of American Chopper I had this feeling that there would have been a larger instance of my American cousins riding in T-shirts.

I 've seen what a 10mph fall can do to someones skin so I always wear full leathers, gloves, boots and helmet regardless of the wheather but hey I live in England so the wheather is always crap. The only difference is that I change my base layer in summer/winter and thickness of gloves.

on long rides when riding hard i have a cortec lrx jacket it is mesh with liner and rain liner and also have the pant that do the same when riding in upstate the mornings are chilly and drop drop the rain liner then the themal liner is it gets to warmit a bit of a pain to reassemble but for the most part it covers all the bases.on short hop just the jacket and jeans. When the temp is over 90 deg short hop i wear the broshtex jacet with the armor it has the kevlar panels int it a does provide some protection definiatly better than a t shirt and is not costly.

I'm in Ireland where it is cold and wet most of the time including the summer so I wear full kit unless it is it really warm, ! I commute to work and ride all year round. I buy good quality kit and it's paid off, I've had most of my kit years, and only replace the kit when it needs it.

Shoei lid - I've had this lid nearly 5 years, it's either on my head or in the top box on the back of the bike, I learned a long time ago that most marks and knocks a lid gets happen because your carrying it around-even if it is only to put in the press, keeping it in the top box means it only comes into contact air, rain and flies.

Richie Textile (9 years) or leather Jacket , I bought this Jacket off the Scott stand at the TT's 12 years ago, I keep thinking I should change it hasn't dated and looks perfect- to be honest now that I think about it I can't understand how it looks good after all these years, the most I do with it is give it a leather treatment once or twice a year

Lookwell Leather Pants- (8 years, leather treatment once or twice a year, and I've replaced the odd Zip but they look perfect, but I might change them soon as they getting a bit tight, (comes with age (mine)so I'm told)

I have Belstaff winter trousers which I wear over the leather pant when it's cols and light pair of gortex pants to wear over the leather in the summer when it's raining

Daytona Non-stop GTX Boots- Second pair the last pair lasted 8yrs)

Ok I do go through gloves, I have summer pairs and winter pairs but they do wear out,

Full faced helmet (I have both Shoei and ICON)
Full fingered Gauntlet gloves (3 pairs depending on weather conditions)
Motorcycle Jacket (textile currently TourMaster with zippered vents when needed)
Boots (3 pairs depending on weather)
Long pants (usually jeans but I have a pair of textiles when they are necessary)
ICON Reflective vest (required to get to work because of where I work - great visibility BTW)

Under armor brand under clothes keep you cool and dry. They also help getting you in and out of your leathers.

On short day trips in good weather, i always wear a leather racing suit. On long distance touring, waterproof goretex. I prefer leather, because i feel i have better control of the bike. It is tighter, and gives better friction to the seat.

Hein Gericke jacket
Icon leather pants (with textile panels for breathing)
Joe Rocket Gloves
Arai Helmet
Zip up 8" leather boots (not racer-boy boots)

I wear full gear all the time every day. My commute is either fast when the roads are empty or harrowing during rush hour. Either way, sweating beats road rash. Occasionally I'll skip the gear . . . but we all know that's when you get hurt so my conscience makes me put it on. I have to get more gear for my girl, because she takes mine when we ride. So far she only has her own helmet and gloves. Jacket is next.

As for what to wear under leather pants, it depends on the situation. In the morning, I just wear my regular pants underneat. Stripping at work is awkward even if I am there first. However, if I'm on a long ride or headed somewhere I can change, I just wear boxers or something along those lines.

When ever I ride my Bird, I wear my leathers & riding boots.
If I take my CBX up into the canyons, I wear my leathers & riding boots.
If I am riding locally doing errends on my CBX which is my normal transportation ride, I will wear jeans or shorts if it is real hot. {90º+}
My helmet is a modular unit and I always wear leather gloves when I am riding.

My wife has full riding gear now, helmet, of course, Joe Rocket jacket and gloves, BellStaff rain jacket, to cut the morning wind and rain when it's there, Dayton riding boots, leather jeans, and breathable under armour etc. A new Apple I Pod so she has tunes and doesn't get too deaf with the sound of the Two Bros wailing. I'm putting a heated jacket for both of us on the list. It gets cool in the early a.m. in the mountains, as you all know. She's happy as a clam back there. Cheers.

After living here in So Cal away from Old Man Winter for 15 years, a heated anything just aint natural.
But, more power to you that you keep your Bird out there as long as possible in Canadialand.
