Scorpion helmet and leather gloves always!!! Joe Rocket leather jacket or Cortech mesh jacket most of the time. along with jeans and riding boots or work boots. I just got a new MotoGP leather jacket (newenough) will start wearing it more now. I have been known to wear shorts(can't remember when), wear tennis shoes (blue moon), and go helmetless (can count on my hand the # of times).Even in these rare cases I always wear gloves. Even standing still the first thing you put down when you fall is your hands. I don't want to have to ask someone to wipe my ass. |

After a comprehensive field test (unplanned) of Cycleport Mesh Kevlar Jacket and Stretch Kevlar Pants (Ultra II) on a major getoff coming home from OzarXX (+70mph high side hitting mileage marker), it is the only gear i would choose 7 days a week and twice on Sunday... Yep, there were briuse marks and badly tweaked ribcage (landed on right ass after doing a handstand off bars going ballistic gawd knows how far), but other than that there was one small fracture to left wrist, right forearm laceration from hitting a mileage marker (jumped in front of me doncha know), there was not a cut, scratch or rash on the entire body. Not only that, both jack and pants had no tears, abrasions, scrapes, broken seams, etc., NOTHING, just very dirty. The jacket most probably saved my right forearm w the mileage marker embedding the mesh kevlar, armour and liner to the bone in a U shape causing the flesh to literally explode (about 5" above wrist). The emergency room measured the laceration at 6.5" long x 2.5" wide. Incredibly the bone was not broken, just very sore and a lot of stiches (i almost passed out when i saw it). There was not a mark on the mesh kevler at this impact area, not even a scratch, unbelievable. The imbedded jacket also clotted the wound since the amount of blood loss was minimal (this feature probably not part of the original design parameters). The Shoei helmet and AlpineStar boots/gloves all did their job admirably too. Healing up pretty good and should be ready to go in about a month... So major kudos to Cycleport, Shoei and AlpineStar with mucho thanks from me, family and friends... B out...

| Re: What protective gear do you ride in? Holy crap Bruce did I miss a post. Sorry to hear of your mishap and glad to hear you're recovering. After my spill 5 weeks ago, I'll also stick with the gear that kept me safe. However, the positive effects of the kevlar that you articulated may get me thinking. How's the bike?? Hope you're on the road soon.

Helmet, gloves, alternate between textile or leather jacket (both with armor), denim pants and tennies. Looking at getting some boots and better pants.

Well the first time I went riding I was wearing a white halter sundress with sandals.... yup I'll admit that was dumb, got a lot of stares though........ Now I wear boots, at least jeans (if its cold I wear chaps), gloves - full or fingerless depending on the day, and a jacket (windbreaker or leather) It all depends on the day and my mood at the time. The people now a days that I see on bikes with nothing but what I was wearing the first time I rode, all I do is shake my head and think how ignorant they are and how I once was!

I have a cortech textile jacket, but I can't find pants that fit me correctly, unfortunately. I also have a full face helmet, gloves, etc. But when it is warm, t-shirts, jeans or even shorts, and a beanie helmet do me just fine.

| Fastest XX in AZ!!! | Re: What protective gear do you ride in?
Well, I wear a scorpion helmet, joe rocket gloves, a mossi armored jacket, jeans, combat boots, and at night a reflective vest (have to since I am military) I am in AZ and I wear all this same gear no matter the temp, this includes being stuck in traffic on the I-10 in 110 degree weather. SAFETY FIRST!!! (said with a severe lisp)
