Got orders for Atlanta, GA, so I'll be sayin goodbye to my home of the better part of 35 years! If anyone's noticed I've taken a few trips there since summertime. Long story short, Mama lived there and had been ill for a while. So I decided instead of running down each time there was an emergency, plus regular trips, I'd put in for a transfer. Unfortunately, she passed away the day after I put in for the transfer (ain't that somethin!). Anyways, I decided to leave the request in and got my orders last week. So I'll be reporting on the 1st of December. I'll probably leave Gotham the 2nd week in November. I'm lookin forward to the extended riding season that X1rider and the Rdkng speak of. Look forward to meeting you guys on the road! (weather permitting)

Mixed emotions after reading that Russ. Sorry about your mom, but on the other hand, happy for you going to live in a warmer climate.
Whats your job in the military?

Sorry about your mom Russ. Atlanta is nice and you will get a longer riding season. I've spent some time down there myself. Seemed to be humid everytime I was there. I'll take that over snow. Recruiter. How long have you been doing that? That was the job that convinced my brother to leave the military. He didn't care for the recruiting gig.

Thanxx guys. Wise words Sir Dragon. I've got cousins who left years ago, but you couldn't tell! Quote: |

| Sad, but true Strekster. Recruiting has left a bad taste in many a soldiers mouth. Been doin it for 8 years now, full time for the Reserve. Guess I'm a glutton for punishment, cause I have had my moments! But less I get all patriotic on you, I do what gotta be done for this great land of ours.
During my frequent trips, I've noticed that the major highways are faster paced than here at home! I remember once I thought to myself while driving down the highway, "Damn! I like these people! They got places to go!!"

Actually the MEPS in San Antonio wasn't too bad. Even the officers were calling me sir. I guess age does help especially in those joints!!
Actually a funny incident happened when I was in there.
Well for those of you not familiar with MEPS it is basically where you are tested from the military to ensure you are mentally/physically capable of entering the service in a nutshell. I will let Mr. Army elate further if needed.
Now back to my story.......
When you are prior service such as myself MEPS is required to do the over 40 prostrate exam. Between the three doctors that were available at the time, it seemed they were bouncing me from one office to another and basically passing the buck on who was going to do this outstanding service to our older prior service guys over 40 and honor prevailed to the doctor with less rank.
Always seems to work out that way.
Anyways..... The doctor asked me to drop my trousers to my ankles, bend over, and point my toes together like a pigeon........I know you guys are laughing already........
Well, with the almighty latex glove dipped with some good old fashion vasoline, the doctor commenced to find gold in the mine. I am thinkin to myself.................... " Jesus what is he looking for?????? "
Well after what seemed like an eternity of him digging around he finally pulled his gloves off and said.....
"Well, I didn't feel anything".........
short pause.............
I replied
"Well, I did"!!!!!!!!
Most doctors do not have much of a sense of humor but for some reason this poor guy was in tears in laughter!
After it was all said and done with me being rejected "sniff, sniff" I then was put in the office with all three doctors and of course the prior conversation came up earlier about the prostrate exam.
I then refered is as "The Special" and had all three of them rolling in the office!
Well..............at least they had a good day and I got reamed and rejected.
Why do I feel used??????????????

HA! If you are going less than 75mph you are obstructing traffic.
As we all know, the XX is a great sport touring mount. Here is a picture I took in Panama City when I went to see my brother and the Thunder Beach Rally. Easy to cover 374 miles of back roads in a day to get there.

Hi Russ. It was great meeting you over the summer. Sorry to hear about your mother's passing.
It's probably going to take a long time getting used to living somewhere other than NYC once you have lived there as long as you have. I was born and raised in NYC and although I have lived only 50 miles east on Long Island for 6 years now, I am still getting used to it. Things are different.

Thanxx! Great meeting you as well Paul! I think I'll adjust quickly. I've been visiting at least 3 or 4 times a year, over the years on average, and would usually spend the summers in SC as a yout(Joe Pesci). I've always believed deep down inside, I'm a country boy at heart!
Do you ever test your top speed down by the ocean out there?

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mom, Russ. That's gotta be tough.
Recruiter...well, misery loves company.
When you get to Atlanta, make sure you tell them you're a Yankee. They'll treat you much better if they know you and your people are from up north.
