When you watching an event that your country is not involved in, who do you find yourself rooting for most?

I seem to find myself pulling for the Aussies.

I pull for the Canadians since I've CBC cable here in the Pacific Northwest. I'm happily conditioned twice over.

Good on ya Hemi.
I told my girlfriend while we were watching the cycle road race, that I could have beaten them by 5 hours.......on my "Bird". She just looks at me and shakes her head. Go the KIWI's.

If the US isn't in the running, I'll tend to root for either the fav or the underdog.

Anybody watch the 4x100 men's free?? Absolutely AMAZING!!! Sorry Aussies

Not all that interested in the olympics. The organization or the organizers bother me. A corrupt organization with a bunch of money grabbers. As for the athletic competition there are few events that appeal to me. Anything that is judged you can toss right out the window. I did watch part of the cycling road race. What a boring course. As far as who I root for if we aren't in an event. I'll go with the Aussies and the Brits typically. Glad to see us kick the french relay teams butt in that 4 man relay swin event last night. After the trash that the french team was talking before the event it was great to see them get beat.

I pull for my Yankee neighbours and the Aussies. Allthough the politics of the Olympics sucks and I believe is somewhat corrupt I respect the effort that goes into training and the olympic efforts. Loved last nights 400 IM against France. I think the Chinese gymnists looked about 12 years old. Good on the Brit for winning the women's road race. I love rowing and the white water events as well as wrestling and weight lifting. Yesterday I spent too much time hugging the couch watching the games.

I have been watching some of the equestrian events.....seems like China has spent a pile of money, but does not have much to show for it....the one venue I watched last night ,was the cross country event. The anouncer said that the Chinese had spent 1.4 billion dollars making the cross country course. (horses run a 4.5Km course over fixed jumps and water obsticals) however, what I saw on TV was a golf course converted to house the event, and most of the money was spent on bringing materials in to actualy make the jumps.

I guess what I am saying is 1.4 billion course shouldn't look like a few jumps etc, sitting on a golf course.

I wonder, where did all the money really go ?

No kidding those Chinese gymnasts looked like 12-13 years old. The US women gymnasts looked a little rough last night. Just watch the womens water polo match against China, there good. We barely won.

I think I prefer the Winter games though, I am glad they changed the year they are played a few years back so that we have some olympics every 2 years. I would love to give luge or skeleton, or bobsled a try.

Lois... Thanks. I was wondering why I kept waking up with those sharp pains.
Really though. I haven't met a Canadian that I haven't liked in all my years. Easy going and friendly. My brother likes you folks so much that his wife is from Canada.

You can take over the world if you want, as long as I can keep my guns! And my XX.

They do go back for visits. They actually ended up living in the hell hole of the US. A suburb of Detroit. The active sitting mayor there just got locked up. The city is so depressed economically that they can't attrack new businesses. I've met a lot of their friends and the people are great. Just the area sucks.

Haven't watched an event yet. If The Americans are not in the running I usually pull for the Aussies and Brits.
