just by looking at the basic layout of this engine it does a wonderful job of mixing the very uncomplicated rotary motor with the very complicated 4 valve engine. one of the neat things you can see by looking at the cutaway is that the piston will actually make 6 strokes (3 up 3 down) through one crank rotation, so for every 2 rotations there will be 3 power strokes. which would mean the power levels would be higher per displacement then a 2 stroke but would actually have the power curve and efficient fuel consumption of a four stroke. the only thing that disturbs me about this engine is the very harleyesque cylinder layout of the seperate V's. for a design that seems to be pushing effiency and simplicity i dont understand why they wouldnt use overhead cams inplace of a pushrod and rocker type set up. other then that i would have to say that this thing would potenially destroy everything else if they were to find a way to get it in a bike frame!!!

I agree that they should use overhead cams, but the "harleyesque" V layout is crytical. As far as combustion goes, it's nothing like a Harley because a 60 degree, 4 stroke v-twin will have combustion strokes that are 300 degrees apart and then 420 degrees apart, every other rotation (NOT smooth). Since the center lobe is triangular, it actually gives perfectly spaced 60 degree combustion strokes and gives 6 combustion strokes per main shaft rotation!! That's the same as a V12!!! Very impressive IMHO. And, they have another output shaft geared up several times to drive accessories that need higher RPM's to operate correctly.
Biggest drawback I see is that the configuration leads to very large size for a given displacement. That engine shown is 2.4 liters.

i was also thinkin that particular layout would be best suited for an airplane.....when i was playing around with this idea in my head i decided that if you place each of those v's next to eachother and used 2 flywheels it would make for a killer v4. and would prolly be the only fesible layout for a bike (sorry i really dont like v-twins.)

Good point. I would only want one if I lived pretty close to a road track. I couldn't imagine that I would be comfy on one of those for more then an hour.
