Came across something new (to me) on craigslist oldy but goody

I put some stuff up for trade on craigslist just seeing what I could get.

Got some pictures of an 87 honda trx250r.

Kid said it didn't run. He bought it running and one day it just woudnt start.
So I think new rings, maybe a bore and good to go.
I was on the fence about trading. Untill he brought it over. To my suprize it had a larger flatslide carb. Then I noticed a spacer plate under the jug. As he was looking at my stuff I scratched off some dirt and seen the jug and head were engraved with the letters "LRD"

He had only told me about the pipe and silencer.
So once I seen that I told him about the engravings. He said yea "I think someone did that to make it look fast"
So to his ignorence I traded with him. Kinda felt bad but he had an attitude about it so.......

Anyway, I've broken it down. I'm looking a 67.25mm bore (which is good to bore to 69mm) a 4mm spacer, a LRD milled and polished head, LRD ported and polished jug, with a stroker crank with a cr250r piston. Also #s say the carb is a 39mm. So this comes out to a 330 stroker that needs a slight bore and new piston and rings. I believe its an aftermarket frame too can't find a name on it and it doesn't look like an old one I had.

Its a pretty sweet set up. Can't wait to get it rollin so I can ride it. Should be fast as.......

Anyone else have one of these laying around?

Used to work with a guy that had a stock 250R ran it in the Baja 500 down in CA. Be real careful he actually pulled a tire apart at 80 mph during a straight run section on the course. (very doable speed) Said it hurt like hell when it came around and clocked him. He thought he might have gotten tagged by a open class truck it hit him so hard. With the work done on that it should be a screamer and a handfull too.
Recomend lean forward clamp your legs real tight white knuckle the grips and full body armour so that when it loops you'll have something to maybe reduce the amount of broken bones. hehe

Lol yea I'm not a big 80mph+ on something I run hard off road. Lol. It should give my ltz470 a good run for its money. I know it won't beat it on low end.

I might try to turn it into a flat track quad. There is a local track they run these and banshee's. After you get so built the tires won't hook. So this might hae a chance.

Glad your buddys ok. I bet it did hurt. Yea it should roll. We'll se what actually gets done with it once its running/riding.

The TRX250R is a super-fast machine! Many years ago I raced my '85 ATC 350X three-wheeler against my friend's 250R and he blew me away. I can't imagine how fast yours will be with all the mods.

It looks great. I'm not into those things. Been on one a couple of times and they are fun. Good luck with it. Oh by the way what did you trade for it and what does LRD mean?

I traded a junkie but runnin all stock suzuki ltz400 (valued around $8-900) and a set of old 6 lug chevy rims. ($60 in junk alum) Lol

I put up a list of stuff to trade and he picked those so I said what the heck.
And LRD is an old race shop/builer who built motors. Made pipes and pistons and what not. Now called LED
If you were to have the shop do this work today you'd be paying around $6-8k just for the motor. It was built for a moto-x race quad in 03. The motor had vin #s on it and I checked em out with the owner of the shop. They had all the data.

And $38000 for the RC30???? Wtf. 004 of 300 but still. Idk someone woud spend that.
