This just in from the AMA:

Josh Hayes Disqualified From Today's Daytona 200

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Josh Hayes was disqualified from today's Daytona 200 following a customary and mandatory technical inspection of the top three finishers' motorcycles in the Daytona 200, round one of the AMA Formula Extreme Series.

Upon this inspection, a technical infraction was found. The #1 Erion Racing Honda CBR600RR's crankshaft was polished, surface treated and metal was removed from it. This is in violation of the 2008 AMA rulebook section 5.4, the text of which can be seen below.

Page 47: Rulebook Section 5.4
5.4 Multi-cylinder liquid cooled engines
The following engine components may not be altered from the originally homologated model except as noted:

b. Homologated crankshaft
1. Bearing surfaces may be polished or surface treated.

In addition, two other motorcycles were randomly picked to undergo technical inspections.

So.....

Zemke mechanical, DuHamel mehanical, Hodgson mechanical, Hayes cheated.

Way to go Honda , So that puts the two Attack Kawi's 1st\2nd, and Larry Pegram on the new Ducati third.

Unbelievable!

Hayes walked away from the pack. Must have had the crank lightened somewhere...

the top three always get hauled to tear down. Of course the AMA did their usual DUUUUUH! BS in letting Miguel D. stay out almost the whole damn race knowing full well he would contend for 3rd place in a Superbike race!!!!

SX spolier below......

Did any of you see my little 17 year old home boy Tyler Macdonald kickin it inside the top 10 for a while until a nasty highside? Did any of you see my home boy Trey Canard win his 3rd Supercross Lites race in as many SX lites starts? If the GP250 and MotoGP are close to the crazy we've sen this weekend then I'll be up all night!!!

Yeah, a lousy day for Honda. Last year it was fuel delivery problems and now this.

The part I don't get is,you know if you place in the top 3 it's tear-down time,so why cheat? What did they think?Let's mod the crank and go for 4th?

Good on Pegram for getting 3rd on the new Duc.I'm no fan of Ducati but they got it done.
