Just a fun post to put up and do a little braggin on the Bird. I went to San Antonio Raceway Friday night with a couple of my buddies and one has an 06 ZX14. I haven't raced my bird before but my buddy asked me what I thought my Bird would do and I said she will run mid 10's. He laughed and said no way. I let it go until we get to the track. I line up with the 14 and the staging lights go (remember I have never raced my Bird before) and I beat that 14!! I ran a 10.7@134 and the 14 ran a 10.8@136. It get's better.... I beat him two more times after that. I guess he thought I was still on my FZ1 or something. Needless to say I had a good time pokin a little fun on this hyperbike of his. I also saw a stock Busa running 10.5's so based on the average guy you can beat about anyone out there if you can launch correctly. My best was a 10.6@135 with a bone stock Bird with Scorpion slip-ons. I can only imagine what times I will get in the future with a power commander/air filter and up a couple of teeth in the rear!!
ZX14 to "THE BIRD"

ZX14 to "THE BIRD" | Well, before you get all full of piss and vinegar, and your helmet stops fitting,
My friend, at that VERY track, would consistantly run 10.000s and even the occasional 9.90 with his bone stock Bus. Rider has a lot to do with it.
I never got better than a 10.90 on my Bird at that track, and it is a very good track. Again, rider has a lot to do with it! It was bone stock at the time. So was I!!
And, like you write above, a lot of it is about the launch! Keep a eye on your 60' times.

People dont understand if they have a 8 sec bike and if they are just a 11 sec rider thats all the bike is going to run. It takes a lot of skill to run these bikes to there full potential.

Yep ! hate to say it but most forums and tech mags will see stock 'Busa do numbers under 10 secs regularly.
Next time you and your buddies go out again ... switch bikes with him and see what numbers he can post on the 'Bird and you on the ZX14 !
That would settle the question as to who is the better person off the line.

Damn, based on that, my bird is an 18 second bike......
I am getting more used to it every ride though. I would love to take it to the track to do a 1/4, my last car ran 11.8......

And, like you write above, a lot of it is about the launch! Keep a eye on your 60' times. | 9.9 with a bone stock Busa??? You sure?? I have not seen that yet at this track and I go to every motorcycle shootout every month.
The regulars that go to the track with the 14's, Busa's, GSXR1000's, R1's, ZX10's are all stretched, use racing fuel, power commanders, sprockets, air shifters all run from 9.5 to 10.5 quarter mile times.
I guess your friend must be a pro or something.
I also ran a 10.9 at the track racing a car. I came out hard, pulled a wheelie, backed off to get the front down, and cracked the throttle back open. My 60 ft time on that pass was like a 2.3 and yes I still beat the car. It ran an 11.4
Tell your friend to come back out there with his stock Busa and run a 9.9. I would be more than happy to lay some cash down saying he can't.
And no, I am not bragging and my head is not swollen. My bird isn't suppose to beat a ZX14 but I did and wanted to post up to the fellow bird owners that yes Busa and Zx14 riders do talk shit and most can't ride worth a shit either and it's funnier than hell!!
I will be putting sprockets, power commander, and air filter on my bird soon and I will post up hopefully low 10's by then.
The Bird bashers will get stung a time or two when I am there and the will WONDER WHY????

Busas, zx 14's and stats aside, what a GREAT story, thanks for the post silverbird. Seems sometimes what a bike CAN do is not always as important as what a bike HAS DONE. Clean kill anyway you slice it. |

you assume that busa & zx14 owners talk shit & most cant ride. interesting observation, but a narrow minded view. But ive found that some bb owners are insecure about their ride so take pride in those sort of comments.

I like going around corners better. And Harley's. Dragging my boot and razzing them with my 120db air horn, especially when they try to block a pass.

Apparently, you took some of my comments a tad bit too personal.
Yes, scooter, I am sure that my friend was running 9.90s on his 99 Hayabusa. 9.99 was the holy grail for these guys! I guess it will come down to your definition of pro, before I can tell you yes or no to that! And, I guess we will have to make sure it is stock.
Best I can tell, the Shit talkin doesn't really seem to be limited to ZX-14 or Hayabusa riders, huh?
I am glad that you had fun at the track, and hope you have more. You'll have to show me how a guy OUR size, can get the thing to run a 10.6. OR, you can show me how to change the clutches!
I also hope that you will explore the XX for what it really is. I know that is hard to do in Lockhart, but there are curvy roads just a few hours from you, to the West.
Look me up when you head that way, and I'll take you on some roads where you can see for yourself what else the bike can do, besides go in a straight line.
See? XX riders besides yourself can talk shit too!
Must be a Texas Thing!

Pretty impressive, Teddy. Put some straps on the front end, too
I like the burst of speed, but try to spend most of the time on the BB improving my ability to hit the apex just right
Suspension improvements are in the works...
