Racing at this level is not about the fastest or the best racer, it's about who can bring the most sponsorship dollars to the table. Take Colin Edwards for example, a fantastic rider, a twice WSK champion for Honda and a fantastic ambassador for the sport but now having been in the premier class since 2003 and at age 36 and only having 11 podiums, (6 thirds, 5 seconds and no wins) in 8 years and still signs for the Tech3 Yamaha team for 2011, you've gotta start to wonder. Now take someone like Australian Damian Cudlin, spent the last 6 years battling it out in Europe, wins the European 2010 IDM Super Sports Championship. Gets a call off Sito Pons to ride the Pons Kalex moto2 bike in the 2010 MOTORRAD GRAND PRIX DEUTSCHLAND, qualifies 22 on a bike he's never seen before let alone ridden, with a team he's never work with before, rides the wheels off it and gets up into 5th and finishes the race in 7th. What a race, but same old story he has very little sponsorship money. Anyway just my 2 cents worth about the Spanish Cup, oh sorry I mean MotoGP
