Glad to see a site like this one. I wish I had known about this when I had my last 99' Bird. I have had many bikes since, but just had to go back to my current ride, a 2001 Red Bird. I just sold my 06 1000rr to buy this one, and could not be happier. Nothing ever compares to the mighty Bird. I actually had the first one for a long time back in 97', and now it seems that way again. Birds seem to be getting kinda rare. LOL. I decided to do everything I wanted to do to this one and never got the chance before. Here is a list of mods so far...
-Yosh full race exhaust
-K&N
-Power Commander
-Iridium plugs
-PAIR blockoff (home built)
-Hayabusa complete front end, incl. steering dampener
- many mods to make this work, btw.
-Brake delink
- more mods (home built)
-L.E.D. undertail
- even more modding
-Custom plate mount
-All new OEM plastic/tank (every piece) in red (I heard they are faster!)
-Corbin smuggler seat
-520 conversion
Next up is...
-Aftermarket wheels
- need a 6in rear wheel for the 200 I want on there
-Nitrous, completely hidden
- I'll not be trounced by a Suzk or Kawi!
Anyway, this is a great site full of usefull info. I will be posting pics when she is fully complete if anyone is interested. If anyone needs a specific pic, or has a question on anything I did, I would be happy to help. Email me if ya want @ blackbird@grandecom.net.

A few words about nitrous applications QUOTED FROM POWERHOUSE MOTORCYCLES, NY
"A lot of people seem to be going with dry systems these days, I think because of the simplicity and reduced cost. It should be obvious, however, that introducing straight nitrous into a motor (without fuel) will lean things out a bit. That is why there are control boxes out now that will (on a fuel injected bike) trigger the injectors to introduce fuel when the nitrous comes on. A company called A&J performance makes such a box, which is gear-based and not progressive. And, just "dumping" fuel with the nitrous is NOT what a professional tuner would do, so these types of controllers are somewhat limited.
The safest and best way is still the old, original way - a wet system. Using a wet system, you can more accurately "tune" the jetting of the nitrous setup by changing the nitrous and fuel jets accordingly. The only variable you will have is your bottle pressure, but there is a great answer for that, as well. A bottle heater that regulates the bottle temperature based on PRESSURE is what you want. If you set it up at 1,000 pounds of bottle pressure (for instance), and set up your nitrous jetting on an air/fuel dyno, your bike will be consistent , and things won't change with the weather because your bottle pressure is always the same.
Take the time and spend the money to do it right!"

The CAF has a large air show the first weekend of October every year.
Definitely worth seeing.
