Greetings from Singapore - HO518 Ohlins REar Shock for 2000 model?

just bought a 2000 year BB stock and good condition. Have not taken the bike yet. Wanting to change onlins shocks and called Darren from MCTechnics.co.uk and he said that HO518 can fit 2000 model without mods. Anyone knows about this? Ohlin site states HO639 for year 98-00 model. Cheers, Eric

Welcome from the windy city. Enjoy the bird and this site. Unfortunately I cannot answer your question on the shocks. Hopefully someone here will be able to help with that.

G'day from Australia
Sorry I can't help with the suspension but I do feel for you regarding the importation of anything tech and mech in Singapore. Lived there for a couple of years and it was a pain in the arse just to get an oil filter for a car !
Had to come from overseas (usually a 7-14 day wait)

G'day from Down Under.

I think a couple of people here have installed the H0518 without problems. My susp doc has actually recommended the WP shock for the bird. Maybe time for a bit of research.

Thanks Paul. According the the suspension expert from MCTechnics.co.uk, he has fitted 15 bikes 2000 model and below with the 518. However, when I called the agent for onlins in Singapore, they mentioned that the mounts are different for 518 and thus can only fit 2001 and later...

BTW, do you know anything about Armstrong Wave disc? They sell it in UK and the price is much cheaper than Galfer Wave. Not sure if the quality is any different.

I believe the 'different mounting' is due to the changes that Honda made in the wiring loom. The reg rec changed sides (certainly different between 99 and 2003) and it is the mounting of the remote reservoir that would be interfered with.

Thanks for the clarification. The shop managed to find the exact model that fits my year. Is there any member who has fitted a Brembo RCS brake master cylinder with Galfer brake lines? I need to know it the banjo which galfer supplied which is mounted on the RCS end needs to be changed.

Thanks Paul for the link. Read it. I decided not to risk going for the HO518 and asked for the HO639 as I don't need the headache of returning it to UK in the event it does not fit. Not sure if you are familiar, I just installed brand new galfer brake lines with braking wave rotors front and rear. The front right rotor (if you are looking from the riders view), has wear on the outer diameter only. The other side has even wear. Is this normal? Don't think its the pads as it is new Goodridge racing pads. The mechanic says after I ride more often, I will see even wear. I am doubtful. I have also installed the RCS Brembo master cylinder with together with the rotors and lines. Cheers.

Sounds like a possible stuck caliper to me.

Re: Greetings from Singapore - HO518 Ohlins REar Shock for 2000 model?

The mounts for either Ohlins HO518 or HO639 are identical. As noted already, the only difference, is that the braided hose for the remote compression cannister will have the banjo fitting facing to the right on the 639 and to the left on the 518 when you are looking at the hose front on.

Either unit will fit no problem, as all you need to do is to turn the shock 180 degrees in the mounts as that is what I just did.

The 518 I have looks like it has been setup to suit an earlier bike, as the hose was pointing out to the right (it should have been the left), and on the 01+ bikes the reg/rec is on the right side of the subframe so you can't mount the cannister there.

Thanks for your reply. Did you mean stuck piston and not calliper?
