| New to the 'bird - came from the Hurricane
Hey ya'll, New guy here in Colorado, just picked up a silver '02 1100xx. Put 19K on a '94 CBR 1000F Hurricane last year, loved every mile. Had a lapse of judgement and sold the 'cane to buy an old Shovelhead. Realized I loved wrenching, but not near as much as I love riding. SOOOoooo - sold the Harley and picked up my 'bird about 2 weeks ago. I'm amazed at how much more advanced the 'bird is than the 'cane, but how very much the same they are. I had a Vance and Hines 4 into 1 system on my old 'cane (which I modified for that perfect tone), and have twin Two Brothers slip ons on the new one. It sounds exactly the same at mid RPM, only in stereo. Handles almost exactly the same, though the front end seems slightly lighter on the 'bird. I think the only thing I miss about the 'cane is the prop rod on the gas tank, that was COOL. Otherwise, I like the beefier but lighter frame, love the acceleration (PGI versus 4 mikunis, not even a fair comparison). And I don't care what anyone says, the old linked brakes worked well on the 'cane and I love them on the 'bird. It's a technology that people don't appreciate until they have to stop a nearly 600 lb bike on a dime. No, stoppies aren't the 'birds strong point, but who would want this bad boy kicked up at 2 o'clock anyway? At any rate, I'm super happy with the 'bird and I got a helluva deal (more than 2k below book). The beak has finally grown on me and quite frankly, flicking the beast up mountain passes gets me off. It's nice to be back. Will post pics soon. | |

Ok fellas (and ladies??? Any 'bird ladies?), here is the bird and the old 'cane. Second pic of the 'cane is at the summit of Berthoud Pass, a relatively technical road with a lot of 180 degree switchbacks - I highly recommend it!
