Hi all. Just joined the site as a mate sent me a link to the thread about raising the ride height. I haven't done this yet, but it looks like a great mod! I bought a 2004 'bird last year after being bikeless for about 17 years while the kids where growing up/paying off the mortgage/etc. Having a great time!

Congrats on your acquisition and from New York City! 6mm shim should raise your ride height just right. Post some pics if you can!

Welcome from across the ditch! This is a great site. I've had the shim in for about 5 years and you won't believe how effective it is. However, at 67000 km, my OEM shock is now pretty stuffed so I recently bought a Penske shock with adjustable ride height and remote damping. A sight more expensive than the 6mm shim though .
Cheers,
Geoff

Welcome! Reentry is such a nice reward for raising kids and paying bills. Almost worth the effort and expense. |

Thanks guys - glad you like it!
Planning on keeping it pretty stock, although am considering some bar risers as I tend to get sore wrists.
Going on an 800 km ride through some great twisties this weekend - I'll post some pics next week.

Nice pics. Looks like a couple of your riding mates would have had to really push it to stay with you on your bird.

Hi Coastal Bird,
Yes the Bucketts Way is a great place to ride isnt it. I used to live along the Bucketts Way and regularly rode out on the Bulahdelah Road as well. What a road that is for any bike let alone the bird !!! As far as farkles go I'd definately recommend some bar risers first and foremost. Get them from Jaws. His are excellent and easy to fit. A double bubble screen will also get a lot of the wind up over the top of you. Add a hugger to keep the crap of your rear shock and your off to a good start.

screen is a powerbronze iridium double bubble. Can be bought here in Oz.Just Google them and you'll find them without to much drama.
