Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself. Gary from Palm Springs, CA here. Just recently became the owner of a 99 Blackbird. Have been a solid VFR Interceptor (2000) person for a long time now. Thought it was the perfect bike. But recently had my best friend give me his bird to ride through the local mountains. Have to say it was a pretty incredible ride. Very different from the VFR, I think because of the longer wheel base and weight. Such a secure feeling on the twisties. Then when we popped out on the Interstate for the trip back I fell in love with the bike. We have incredible high winds out here in the desert that sometimes make freeway driving next to impossible on the smaller bikes. Well the bird slices through the wind so easily its easy to not even notice that its windy.
Bird has 33,000 miles on it but seems to run very smooth. Still a lot of unusual noises to get used to compared to the VFR but seems pretty solid mechanically. Cosmetically has a few flaws that need some TLC but I'm sure I'll bring it back to full beauty in a short time.
Had no idea that there was a power hungry beast lurking inside me. But this bike makes me want to just go out to look for other bikes and cars to pass. I hope I can keep my license long enough for that sensation to pass.. LOL. Its pretty easy on these long deserted desert roads to reach speeds in excess of the 55mph speed limit (joking)

Welcome from the windy city. Seems like you have a fair amount of wind yourself. Enjoy the bird
