Hi,

I have just bought a 97 blackbird after owning a lot of different types of bikes, in fact i collect it next saturday.
Can anyone out there give me some tips on basic improvements ( suspension for example. )

Thanks

Great site by the way

Welcome. 1st, use the search button for ?'s. Suspension is a weak spot on the Bird as is the elecrical system on the early models. Try this site as well, The worlds leading Honda Blackbird site JAWS!!/aka, John. In England your suspension can be rebuilt. I ride on Penske. Jaws sells longer springs, shorter spacers and pre load adj. In Europe, many go for Ohlins. You can even swap out your front forks. Sp 1, Busa, I think. That's overkill for those who are very tech and have deep pockets. I find my Penske remote excellent for the Bird along with RaceTec Gold valves and swapping out the springs, as mentioned. You could send your front end to Traxion(?) spelling. You must have many excellent suspension experts in your neck of the woods. If you look in many Brit mags, Bike, TWO, etc there is much info on suspension. The Bird is a well loved bike world wide, as you will find out on this site. Cheers, '02 127,000 kms of touring.

from the North of Scotland. I agree with Canadian Bird, Jaws is your man for bits and info and not a million miles from you in Thetford.

Depending on your weight, get heavy duty fork springs and synthetic fork oil, 10 weight. New fork seals as well. Save your money up and invest in a aftermarket adjustable shock. Michelin Pilot Road 2 tires are a smart purchase too. You will need a rear wheel hugger to keep road grime off your new shock!
2002 & up VFR800 handlebars make for a comfy ride with just 2 tabs zizzed off the clutch and brake alignment points for a clean fit.

Welcome from the windy city. I've done the VFR bar swap and am pleased with it.
