Hey my names Chuck Im new on here. I just bought a 97 xx and was wondering what I need to do to get more low end. Any recomendations for setting it up for drag racing? Whats the best rpm range to hit on the take off?

| http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_5_127.gif At 1100 rpm, from what i have seen from this bike i think it would land at the end of the track and i would be at the start line. thanks for the sound advice!

i wouldnt mind hearing a little about this to.
not so much setting it up for a drag...
but the best way for a take off perhaps??
its prolly just how im doing it, but when i take off, i start moving slow for a few seconds before actually taking off.
i cant seem to analyse what im doing wrong though :\

Honestly there really is no one set way to launch ANYTHING... A few things to consider:
Surface / Traction
Rider Experience
Tire Condition / Type
Gearing
and EXPERIENCE
Launching is a judgement call. You have to be able to estimate the amount of traction you are going to have in a given set of circumstances and ideally you want to apply as much power as possible given traction and nose rise. This is an ever changing thing. And experience comes in when you have to control this ever changing thing namely traction. If it bogs, and then goes that's easy, but that's not ideal most times. Normally you have some traction loss and/or nose rise. This is where the experience comes in ...
Slipping the clutch is your best bet until you find the best balance for you and the few things I mentioned above. Once you get GOOD and BETTER you will be engaging more of the motor with the clutch and slipping less ... (hence applying more power to the ground)
On ANY liter bike, RPM's don't have to be too high to get a good strong launch ... Unlike a 600 class bike
Practice within your limits and be careful ... These are no 600 class bikes they can be very unforgiving out of the hole if you over-do it ...

i leave at around 5 grand but my bike is also s/u for drag racing. Managing any hp level efficiently is the key to good track performance. What are u actually wanting to do

Thanks for input Dez.
what im wanting to do exacty... just take off faster.
once im moving (basically crawling... ) then i can fly.
but from an immediate stopping position, to fly (without a crawl in the middle)... i cant seem to do lol
i think what im doing is letting the clutch go and making sure its ready for action before i kick it in the guts. so i take off, then a couple seconds later i give it some.
so if i was in a drag... the other bloke would be half way down the line before i really took off LOL

These bikes have a miserable clutch for hard launches. They will get grabby ,especially after putting some heat into the plates from a good burn-out.I started at 6000 rpm and with the front end strapped hit 7000,the bike was stock everything except a 16t frt sprocket. The first 2 seconds goes by so fast you can't really concentrate on what you're doing,it comes with practice and just trying to get the clutch out fast and the power on as fast as you can.
I modified one of my steel plates and the clutch is awesome now.tHE BIKE IS NOW 150HP,lowered and 60ft are in the 1.66-1.70 range and getting better all the time.Stock-a low 1.7 was a rarity.1.8 were too common-my 600 was quicker.Hated that clutch.
On a side note, going racing tomorrow.

| i wish i could show you....clutch is an important part of this equation for sure...i have a my personal combination of components that work for me through R&D.....Barnett steels and heavy duty springs as far as fibers i use those from gen1 Hayabusa 99-07 they are few thous thicker than oem Honda which allow them to perform better while lasting longer from there u can fine tune using shims and spring tension combinations...that's the fun part

I dont know about drag racing, but on my 07 I can take off at a smaller intersection and, without trying, be doing 60kmh by the time the front wheel crosses the other side. On a slightly bigger intersection, that speed is easily 80kmh. On a freeway intersection, the speed easily increases to 100kmh, and all of this is starting off at 4000rpm.

from the sounds of it my biggest issue is that im not really revving it on take off....
might start giving it a little more and see how it feels (little bits at a time of course..)

The few times I have been to the track with pretty much a stock set up I realized that slipping the clutch up to about 7k is almost a necessity. Full release and you are pulling a nooner. I launch at about 4500 to 5000k, slip the clutch until the front end settles, and after 7k go to full throttle. Now I don't do this for a living but I do get decent times. My 60ft's are 1.7-1.8 and quarter mile times are 10.6 to 10.8. I know some of you guys probably got this beat by a long shot but I was making these times I first took My Bird out there. I am pretty confident that if I raced more I could probably be in the 10.4 bracket. Sprockets, fuel, and stretch....Maybe 10.1's. Just play with it when you launch and go with what you are comfortable with. Your time will drop with every pass.
