    Hello and a question

    Hi Birdies

I’ve just bought my first ‘Bird, and am loving it. It replaced a mint FJ1200 which was a great bike, but heavier than I liked. I’m staying well within my comfort zone to start with (and I’ll never use all the performance), but the 304 miles in 2 weeks have been blissful. My wife loves it too!

Now the question: my son, who rides a Z1000, says he thinks the faint transmission whine on the ‘bird is due to a too-tight chain. Can anyone tell me how much vertical movement there ought to be? I’ve ordered a CD-manual, but it won’t be here for a couple of days.

    Thanks in anticipation

    Re: Hello and a question

Thanks for the quick response, John - have just done that (typical, to find it just after posting the question!), and see that the slack is 1 - 1.4in. Off to check it now.

    Re: Hello and a question

Hi Paul - thanks for the welcome. It's a 2000 bike, with 8,275 miles when I got it - now that plus 381, as I've just got back from a great ride up some twisty, well-surfaced roads with my son, he on his Z1000. I rode the Z part of the way back, and enjoyed it as always - what a contrast with the 'Bird! Lots of fun, but nothing like so comfortable. He seems to like his sessions on the 'Bird, too! It looks absolutely magnificent, in that lovely bright metallic blue, but tomorrow I plan to risk spoiling the looks by fitting a rack for our Givi top-box - it's hopeless relying on a rucksack to carry our helmets, etc around when off the bike.

What year, colour, etc is your bike?
