hey guys whats up, my name's steve, and im gonna be getting my first BB in about 2 weeks, from my boss's brother. It's an 02 that he drives daily on the freeway, it does have high miles, but the bike is perfect, it has 58K on it, im gonna get it for 3200 and it comes with summer jacket/gloves, winter jacket/gloves/pants, and a set of leathers, and a helmet ( i prob wont use the helmet but it comes with it) i realize it is high miles, but it has been meticulously maintained, anything inperticular i should look for at this amount of miles?

Welcome, I don't think 58k is exceptionally high milage for an '02, mine has 105,000 kms and is also meticulously over-maintained and still runs as strong as new. This engine, if maintained, has a long life, I believe. There are document BB's, in England, with 1/2 million miles. even more. Before you load up on questions, use the search button. Almost every question has an answer, of some description, on this site. When you get your Bird, don't do "stupid" stuff, ride safely and get to know your Bird. Cheers

I agree..
You will find yourself in alot of trouble if you push it right away.
100mph on a bird only feels like 60mph the bird is FAST and smooth
be careful and enjoy, you should get 100,000 trouble free if you maintain it. |

| to the site. +3 on the above. 100k on these is nothing, make sure to keep your oil changed every 2500-3000 miles.

If you have ridden the bike and it rides fine you should be ok. Just check out the basic stuff that you will need to pass inspection, tires, brakes and lights. As everyone on the site will agree to, honda is a great running engine weather it be a motorcycle, car or lawnmower. You can't go wrong. Enjoy and have fun.

If you have service records that should be the guide. I might do oil and all hydrolic fluids. Check the charging system. Did you get the owners manual? Check plugs? when were the valves last adjusted? As you ride and get used to the Bird you'll have a better idea. Yes, the clutch basket rattles, and it's good to "load up" the clutch for shifts. Have a look at the tread,"How much have you spent on your Bird" for add ons and farkles. The Bird can be a little like a boat, a bottomless piggy bank. If you ride at night a lot, maybe HIDs, at that mileage the rear shock might be "gone" they don't last that long and can't be rebuilt unless you send it to England(Jaws). When you ride a Bird, you've caught the Bug and there is no cure. Only throwing money at her. Cheers
