    Hello from Lawrence, KS Everyone!!!

Hey everyone. I'm new here and am looking at getting a 97 Blackbird with 19k miles on it. I was hoping to find out what I should pay for it in good condition. It has a customer blue flame paint job over black, is equipped with D&D exhaust, and a integrated rear tail/turn signal lamp.

Are there any issues I should know about before purchasing one on the 97's? Thanks in advance!

The 97 is carberated the 2000(?)is fuel inj. there was also a change from analogue to digital and the ram air. Actually if you try the search button you might find some detailed differences. Your looking at a 15 y.o. bike and that's not even broken it, imo. Has it been sitting for a long time? Myself, I'de replace the tires, asap, all fluids; coolant, hydraulics, oil. Depending you might need a new battery. Honda has issues with electricals, R&R which can drag down the battery and nuke the stator. Welcome, by the by. Spend some time on the many threads that deal with any questions you have. What's it worth? depends on if it's been down, and a few other variables. I'd say $3-4,500 perhaps. There are a few excellent birds for sale on this site, check them out. Does it have any add ons, farkles, luggage? Good Luck

FWIW, I saw this bike before picking up mine. I thought it was a good deal and the price has been lowered since I first saw it. Trouble was it was too far. Looks like it is only about 45 minutes from you though.

    2002 Cbr1100xx FS 15k miles $4200 - Public Discussion Forums

It is a newer model, FI, appears to be unmolested, less mileage, and best of all it is the fastest color.

Heisti, You're correct that looks just like the set of fairings it has on it. I'm not a giant fan as I would prefer the black, but they look ok. As far as the aftermarkets, it has D and D exhaust, tinted windscreen, smoked headlight, and the integrated led tail light with the stock rear turn signals removed. The left side bar end is pretty chewed up from being laid down, but the rest seems to look alright. It looks the part, but definitely needs to have some maintenance and be cleaned up. I had a 99 found a while back before that I almost bought, but it would have been a first bike and opted towards something smaller instead. I'm 6'2" 265lbs, and just came across this one at work. (I work as the used car director for an Automotive Organization here in Kansas.) I think I can buy this for around $1500, but I'm still waiting on the number from my boss. I'm thinking that even if I buy it, I can ride it for a season, sell it and upgrade to a FI version. Thoughts?

Re: Hello from Lawrence, KS Everyone!!!

You will find a good one on this Forum or others. There are a lot of 2000 dollar bikes for sale for 4000 because they are ??? Doesn't matter much, just take the condition, add to it the repairs required and there is a retail value. Older sport bikes can be a fantastic deal because their engines are so darn tough, not impossible but pretty rare to have an major engine problem with a low miles large cc bike. Just make sure they shift well and don't pop out of gear under load. I personally like the ZZR1200 Kawa as much as the Blackbird and they are out there cheap if you want a fast and smooth ride. The ZX12 and ZX14 tho imo are the way to go if you want a fast bike that you can manage into a faster one. For finesse, smoothness, reliability and class the Blackbird is king, just too bad they are so dated. I would just love to have a new Super14 Blackbird but Honda has left that race long ago. I will be through Lawrence in a couple months with my BB if you find one it would be interesting to see what you have. As much as I like fuel injection carbs may be the thing for these older bikes, they are easily maintained and thats a big thing when the rolling stock gets older. Carbs can also be more easily tuned/managed.
