Welcome from Canada. Stupid? No. Unwise? Most definitely. Sort of like hopping into an R8 for your first car. Things to watch out for: everything in front of you when rolling your wrist back. Things like pedestrians, other vehicles, barriers, police cars, etc.

The charging system, particularly the regulator/rectifier on the '98 and under, is the only area you probably need to watch.

    Good luck, be careful.

Welcome from the windy city. Things to watch our for. Be careful. Shewie covered most of the items. Many expensive drops occur during slow speed moves.

    aboard!

If you have the slowest coloured silver one, it'll be OK for your first bike. Still, be careful out there!
UNDERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the front of the bike.
OVERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the rear.
HORSEPOWER is how fast you hit the wall.
TORQUE is how far you take the wall with you.

    Re: newbie

Not a stupid choice at all....you've got one of the best bikes ever made. Ride within your limitations and level of experience and you will have no problems.

Did 98s come in silver color in UK?

Welcome "newbie". Just take it slow as the other much more experienced members have suggested. Even my slow Silver one is probably more than my 20 years of on-and-off riding can handle if I ever tried to push it to its potential.
