Newbie from Norway

Hi guys!

Guess it goes without saying that I'm a newbie on this forum. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty much a newbie on the XX as well, I've only had it for about a month. Previously, I've owned a Suzuki Bandit 400 and a Kawasaki GPZ900R. The Bird is by FAR the best bike I've ever ridden, and I can't find any reason why I shouldn't hold on to this bike for quite a few years.

I live in Norway, I'm 25 yo, my job consists of accountancy and management. I have a wonderful wife, a 4 year old daughter, and I'll be a father for two in about 7 months from now. Besides my family, motorcycling is my biggest passion. Also BMW's (cars) have a special place in my heart.. Looking forward to spending some time with you guys!

Re: Newbie from Norway

Sure would be nice if we had one of each gender, yeah. Allthough our daughter can be a real daddy's girl, she's generally very careful and sceptical to new challenges. She doesn't even want to ride with me on the bike (not that my wife would let her anyway, but still).. On the upside, she is VERY helpful, kind, smart and generally a big sunshine in our lives!!

Would be fun to raise a boy this time though, someone who dreams of being a fireman or race car driver, and never says no to a challenge. I think about the time they turn 4, you can tell if they will grow up to be a wuss or a Bruce Willis wannabe.. We'll probably know the gender around Christmas..

Re: Newbie from Norway

Better keep those sharp and heavy tools inaccessible for him! He might hurt your BB! Our little princess had just learnt her ABC a few months ago. She thought it would be neat if she wrote her name on our car - with a rock. (She also thought that we could simply wash it off, in case we didn't like her "decorations")..

Good thing she wrote it on our old shitty car No.2, or I would have freaked out! I sold our car No. 2 a few weeks ago - got exactely the same $$$ that I paid for it, so no harm done..

Hi there Leftlaner!

No reason she can't be any of the professions you listed is there?

I have sons they are now 19 and 21 (both in university), I am amazed at times they are still alive after some of their stunts. something to look forward to!

How is that?? I do agree that male nurses might get some attention..

..but there's nothing "wrong" with your gal becoming a nurse, is there..?

Re: Newbie from Norway

I am a nurse, my wife is a nurse, maybe its different where you are, but over here the AMA (medical association) rule the roost, so we will always be less than what we can be....

I guess its a good profession, I actually love my job, and I chose to do it, it's just that if you were doing a male dominated profession with the same responsiblilities you would be earning a shitload more!!!!

There is the problem of shortages in the workforce too!!!

Oh I could go on........

Re: Newbie from Norway

Welcome Leftlaner from another part of Europe.
Where in Norway are you? I have a friend and fellow-Blackbirdrider living in Gjerstad. He was in Holland last month, and bought a lot of BB-goodies from me.... There are not too many BB-riders in Norway, Sweden has a lot more of them I think.
We will probably be visiting Gjerstad with a group of Dutch Blackbird-riders next summer. Maybe you can come and join us?

I'm from Bergen, the next largest city in Norway, at the west coast. I suspect you are right regarding the amount of BB riders in Sweden vs. Norway. Perhaps the fact that all vehicles cost about twice as much in Norway as in Sweden contributes to this?

There are at least 3 places in Norway called Gjerstad, could you be a bit more specific? Anyway, I'd love to join you so keep me updated on this trip!
