My best friend (Wes) was the first owner. He was even lucky enough to Be the one to take it out of its crate and prep it himself. So I have been riding this bike off and on for its whole life. I bought it to be my daily rider in 2004 and on the way home received my first performance award on a motorcycle in 20 years. After a little over a year of seeing 150 plus on a daily basis I decided that I was going to go to jail if I didn't stop riding this bike.
So, I sold my 98 Blackbird to my brother. A sad moment indeed but I had visitation rights so it wasn't so bad. He didn't make it a month and the phone rang "I'm in Jail. Get me out and go get the bike...Please".
56,000 miles!!! It made it 56,000 miles without anything but tires, foot pegs and that piece of the fairing along the bottom that rubs after you lift your foot to let the peg fold up, touching the ground. They say its not if but when. He did it. My brother put it on its side 20 ft. from his driveway, actually slid right past it.
Long story short I just bought my bird back. Not quite the way I remember it. I am now in the process of rebuilding my new old bird. I already have some of the parts on the way. But I am still looking for a few more things. I may be posting some WTBs in the classifieds over the next couple of weeks.
I guess this is what I get for selling it in the first place.

| Welcome bcorn! I am glad you got your bird back. I think you are the same bcorn that was in Opus's (VFR) trip report a few years ago. I have wanted to go to Colorado and to the Pikes Peak hill climb since reading it.
Let us know what you need. Some of us have extra parts and would like to see you get your bike repaired.

I sold the Bird to help finance my new Cooper S which I drove to Colorado last summer. I revisited some of the same roads and pined for the Bird every inch of the way.
Don't get me wrong the MINI Cooper is an amazing car. I bought it to compete in the SCCA SOLO Nationals. It helped get me a class championship, the club championship, and Driver of the Year localy and took me to 2nd place in the SCCA national championships. But it ain't no Blackbird.
Parts I need : upper cowl, right faring (the was laid down on the left and then dropped over unto the right when he tried to pick it up) , clutch lever, brake lever, wind screen, right front rotor (wheel lock, not me), rear rotor, stock exhaust cans (both sides ).
I already have : left faring, left mirror (glass is hazy, looking for better specimen), left foot peg, stator cover.
P.S. I am trying to raise the funds to run Pikes Peak this summer. I having trouble deciding what the best bike would be though. Worse case scenario I get to navigate/sit in the passenger seat in one of the rally cars. So come out and cheer me on!

Hey XXbrother, I've got stock=heavy cans in nice shape, stock levers, and a decent stock windscreen, all from my '98.
Only thing is, I'm in Vancouver Canada so postage would be about 50% more than from the US.
I'm sure some members will reply with parts you need soon. There's pretty much a whole '97 being sold in parts on ebay. Seller is Gixxerman? Just don't bid on the right and rear rotor, 'cause those are mine. LOL
OK, take care and get that thing goin' soon, summer's comin'.
Glen.

How about a link to the XX parts on ebay ? I am scouting parts for the injured LogoMan who crashed two weeks ago. Randy needs all plastics and a headlight badly so we can begin rebuilding his bird so when he gets back on his feet again he will be well on his way to haveing a Bird again !

I think at least one of the systems is dang near brand new. Unfortunately he is not on the internet.

Hey! We have a couple things in common: A Blackbird and a Cooper S. Mine is an 04 with the John Cooper Works package. I thought it was amazing until I got the XX. It's still pretty cool. For a car. |
