    I went down Saturday
don't worry about me, I'm ok.
couple of mystery bruises and stiff muscles.
I was in sequim, heading to my in-laws (planning on making the Neah Bay Ride sunday morning)
when a truck I had been following (3-4x the normal following distance) decided to turn right onto a cross street (with no signal)
then as I approached, he decided to make that a "Wide U-Turn" and turned left right in front of me
I was going about 40-45 (on wet pavement) when he did this.
I had the ABS on both the front and back going til I made contact with his left side (solid "T-Bone")
I'm guessing I was down to about 20mph when I made contact
    all said and done,
    I'm OK
I think my bike will be totaled censored:censored:
the other driver (probably about 70+ years old) received a ticket for "improper turn resulting in a collision"
the bike is now sitting at a bike shop (the only one within 60 miles or so) waiting on an estimate
I'm still waiting for the claims adjuster to return my phone calls

    here's some pics:

    Edit:
I don't know why I can't get the thumbnails to come up

Re: PNW... New here, Bremerton, Wa (Seattle)

I just took a look at the pics. 1st off glad you are OK. Looks like you got off real lucky judging by the photos and description of the accident. The bike...Man what a shame. That was one nice looking bike. Looks brand new in the photos outside of the damage caused by the accident. I feel for you. I lost a bike in a similar "cut off" accident myself now 2 summers back. That persons insurance company covered that loss and the minor injuries (medical costs) and covered pain and sufferring. Still I wish I had my bike back intact and that it had never happened.

I'm a little curious though as to why you are looking to replace the Connie with a Bird. I've always liked the Connie's and would consider purchasing one if I was looking to do some longer touring type rides. I feel the bird is more of a sport tourer when compared to a Connie or an FJR. I look at those bikes as more of touring sport bikes. Mostly just because they come stock set up better for touring with the more relaxed ergo's, hard bags, ABS heated grips, adjustable windscreens etc. The Connie and the Bird are both great bikes just a bit different off the showroom floor. So what leads you to the Bird???

    thanks,

the bike was in excelent shape,
year and a half old, only 21K miles
never parked outside (more than an hour or so)
    never parked in the rain
    etc...

    as far as switching bikes,

the Wife and I are expecting a new little Rider this summer
and the Wife has lost intrest in riding the motorcycle (never was a huge fan of it like I thought she would be)

I have little need for a super comfey 2 up bike
and I've found my "Touring" has been limmited to about 400miles per day
usually each way to visit my parents over a long weekend

I just want a nice comfey sport bike
don't need the frills of a Touring machine

    pluss,
I have decided I'm not spending that much money on another bike
(even tho I've really loved my Connie)

Super. Yes the bird will be great for that. Actually its not bad two up. I have kids myself so my rides are mostly day rides. Good luck with getting a bird. I saw a nice looking one on flea bay the other day but it might have sold by now.
