Just an update... I made it to Kalamath Falls, OR via mt. Lassen and Mt Shasta. Mt. Lassen kinda bit me today. They're chip sealing about the first 10 -20 miles (South Entrance) and I stopped at this gorgeous outlook and took som pictures. As I got back on the Bird, I kinda over compensated my balance attempting to get the kick stand free of all the gravel. I caught the bike with my right leg but there just wasn't enough omph to get the bike upright so I let it down slowly. I then got to practice the CORRECT way to right the bike. I scratched the right lower fairing and mirror... And the Givi saved the rear of the bike... It now has "character"... The rear tire is about toast after about 4500 miles. The wear bars in the middle are getting exposed. So I may detour over to Springfield after doing a blast around Crater Lake and pick up a new Diablo Strada rear at the Cycle gear store... They're holding one for me just in case.
Well, I'm hot, tired and stink... Gonna grab a shower and a snooze... I'll be back in Boise either Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
Catch ya later guys 'n gals...
Ride safe.

Two Performance Awards (ID and OR), a new Diablo Strada rear (thanks to the good folks at Cycle Gear in Springfield OR) and a VERY flaky regulator. The system voltage would fluctuate between 11.7 and 14.9 volts and today I could smell that something (the regulator) was cooking.
The sticky Diablo gave me 4k miles of service before the cords started to appear (as I left Crater Lake). The CG folk had and held the tire for me and assisted in removing and installing the rear wheel. So, if ever in need in west central Oregon... The Springfield Cycle Gear store is a good place to go. I caught rain to and from Springfield and today's ride started in a downpour. I caught rain for about 120 miles from Bend (hey Scott... not a drop of water got into the suit). It was just outside of Burns OR that I got my second award... I was too freakin' busy watching the voltage, the speed kinda crept up and on a VERY long straight (on Rt. 20) I got nailed by OSP... Did I mention I HATE Dodge Chargers?!?!? Oh, and guys... Oregon made up for the "inexpensive" ticket that Idaho gave me...
Anyway I'm finally home... And I guess I have to start shooting the electrical gremlins now...

Good to hear eveyone had a good time. I am nursing cracked rib in my back and cracked collarbone from a 100+ getoff from a few weeks back at THill.
So how many riders ended up showing?

I`m back,,,,,,,,,,iron butted from Devil`s Tower to Chi-town yesterday,,,,,,,,it was long day ( 16 hrs),I had to keep speeds down as my tires were not looking exactly new after 8110 miles/20 days,,,,,expected rear to blow up anytime over last 400-500 miles,,,,,,,,cooler temps and some rain helped I guess.
I`m gonna do autopsy later today, wonder how much meat meat is left in the middle,,,,,,,,,,,
I think a saw Warchild on Sunday morning just outside of Austin,,,,,,,,,glad to see everyone at the meet,,,,,,
No pefrormance awards,I guess loosing power cord for my Passport very early into my trip helped,,,,,,, |
