Re: How to change the coolant fluid

tight I have just printed off the manual for my 97 and now I can add this quick step by step, something I was planning to do soon enough, I had the process down but nice to just have a quick reference

Re: How to change the coolant fluid

Thanks for pics and the info.Just did my coolant this way and it worked a treat. The only extra thing i did was when the old coolant finished draining i ran a fresh water hose into the top of the radiator to flush out the system.Once the clear fresh water finished draining i put it all back together as described. If you mix old coolant and new coolant it can turn acidic, which is not good,so a fresh water flush is advised.

Re: How to change the coolant fluid

has anybody ever heard of a product called engine ice? or used it...(engineice.com) it's suppose to keep the engine running cooler, supposedly of better heat shedding properties...

I just bought a bottle of Engine Ice today because a friend of mine who runs a shop in OC Ca says it is great stuff.
The coolant in my engine now looks like new but, is out of there tomorrow to be replaced by Engine Ice as part of my Bird's full service she is receiving from me now. I adjusted the valves today, not fun.

Re: How to change the coolant fluid

what type of coolant do the sub-freezing temp bird owners use? any additives like waterwetter and so on...... haven't had any problems w/ my tropical lifestyle bike in -20's thus far, but I don't want to burst a bubble... or a radiator

Re: How to change the coolant fluid

I use coolantfluid and distilled water, 50 % mix.No problems with temps ever. Should be good to -36 °C.
But i don't drive so much during the winter, keep the bike in warm storage.

Not releasing the top nut means that you didn't flush all the coolant. I advise to do the job over again. Coolant costs nothing. If you follow the instructions of the workshop nothing van go wrong..

The steam gushing out of the reservoir usely means that your radiator cap has deseased. Try to fit a new one. I am pretty sure that that is the cause..

Well guess i didn't do a gd job.But i've bought a new cap but its not the original cap.But the shop says can be used.Still have the old cap though.By the way i'll try to see if the rad is still full.Dun like to see the temp fluctuate like nobody business....thnx again
