It's been almost six months after my fix and no problems so far.
YOUR case is very interesting though. I didn't know that there was a posibility for the tail section.
I will keep this in mind for the future.
Just keep us informed if you got any further news about this.

Well , just for the record - still no red FI light on again after several months of cleaning electrical contacts in the tail section.

Use swith cleaner or ACF 50 which Jaws Motorcycles swears by!

I did the solder fix 2-3 months ago and have had absolutely no occurrences of FI light coming on since...thanks for the info! I had my laptop with the photos right next to me as I did the fix. Simple and straightforward.

Does anyone know if the wire harness / test plug problem can cause an ECU failure. After limping approx. 120mi. home with compounding failures and antics associated with the test plug corrosion I have completed the test plug elimination to no avail. The bike will not start due to the fuel pump relay not energizing. During the ride from hell I had to bypass the relay to get home. Now after the plug repair the ECU shows a marginal circuit completion to the fuel pump relay (not enough current to pull in the relay). The bike will start and run with the relay bypassed. All connections have been checked, cleaned and found to be in good order. The bike is a low mileage, garage kept, '99 that showed no symptoms of the test plug corrosion nor any problems prior to the fialure. I have two '99 Blackbirds so I can swap the ECU from the other but I am reluctant to do so unless I can be sure the harness has not failed the original ECU. Any help would be appreciated.

Mr. Mike.

OK.. so I found it! Took it apart, and its perfectly clean, dry, and No corrosion.. Whats next?
I just bought this Bird a week ago. The dealer told me it was normal, and would stay on for a while, then go out.. I was ok with that until i noticed it would come back on in sync with t-signals.
I am old school... Red lghts on das are NOT acceptable !

Thanx SOO Much in advance.

Eagle2 I just had my entire wiring harness replaced by the dealer that I bought the bike from becasue he said the same thing and i told him to fix it or give me my money back. He decided to fix it. he replaced the board thinking it was a bad solder job. Then when I started blowing fuses he found that a ground was bad at the rear of the bike. The wiring harness and the sub wiring harness had to be replaced. You need to keep on the dealer about this or you will get the shaft in the long run. I had the same exact problem with the blinker and it got brighter when I used the brakes or high beam. You bought it from them so make them fix it... Or ask for your money back... 9 out of 10 times they will not want to give your money back.

My 1999 BB had these problems in 2005.
Honda Netherlands replaced the full wiring loom for free (extended warrenty). This new wiring loom is without the dreaded connenctor in it.....

This is not the way Honda usually does it,the warrenty was extended to 5 years, but since I was the President of the Dutch Blackbird Owners Club at the time they probably thought that they didn't want the negative publicity.... (or they just wanted to do me a favour....).
No problems since.....
