Swing Arm Removal Tool - drawing

Due to the number of projects going on I thought it time to put calipers across my swing arm removal tool so anybody who wants to fabricate one has the dimensions! This is a nice tight fit so there is no chance of slipping and marking the frame.
Apologies for the picture quality I couldn't find an easy way to export from CAD to jpeg for here so ended up going black and white pdf and then scanning!

Hey Ducky!
Great post mate, many will appreciate this! All you have to do is print it and take it to your local machine shop and they can make it for you!

Or.. you can buy it from here too:

Re: Swing Arm Removal Tool - drawing

Certainly don't mind the link but a word from my experience. The 'handle' on the tool above can come in really useful. The inner pivot bolt can/usually does turn when tightening up the nut so you need to hold the bolt (v large allen keys or similar) and then apply the torque to the nut ............... hence the 'handle' with hole for the torque wrench drive. This avoids upsetting the critical torque on the pivot bolt.

As a CAD guy myself I can say that you did a good job on the drawing.
I'm sure it will be very helpful.

not too certain how that would be of help, without the software it would be meaningless. I will however try and extract better images when I have a few spare minutes.

The images are great and I can use it without any problem!

I asked for the CAD file only because I use some CAD software at work, and I like to add the arm removal tool to my tools library!

Thanks again for your work!

Re: Swing Arm Removal Tool - drawing

For those that have had the swingarm off the bird, what would be a reasonable service interval in km-mls.

Re: Swing Arm Removal Tool - drawing

They are built like the proverbial "brick s..t house" in there. There are Birds in the UK past 100K miles without the swing arm having been removed. So usually the deciding factors are damage, cosmetic, or occasional bearing wear usually due to extensive pressure washing in the wrong area. When I first stripped a rear end down I had a look at the swing arm bearings having found wear on the linkage bearings/sleeves .... the swing arm was as new.

Re: Swing Arm Removal Tool - drawing

Thanks for that Duck, was wondering after talking to FJR guys servicing swingarms at 40-50,000 kms and finding very dry needle bearings.Seems Honda are more liberal with the grease at assembly.

Or is it cause hondas are build better?
Having the arm serviced every 50,000 or so km sounds about right to me. At the end of the day, if your bike has served you well for 50k Km then its entitled to some loving isn't it?
Cheers,
Chris
