Mine comes on when i wash the bike, every time. No fault code appears and I can start the bike no problems, but it was a bit unnerving when it first started happening and I wasn't sure why. When the bike dries out, it goes off. The original owner, who is a mate of mine, said it did the same when he had it, so its no biggie.
if you can't be a good example, try to be a horrible warning.
Got my bike back, with a report that there was an intermittent short between the CDI and the service connector. To cure this the technician fitted a wire outside the loom, rather than disturb the loom. This seems to have fixed the problem. Maybe this will help anyone who has experienced a similar problem.
Better to give way than wish that you had.

Would an FI fault stop the rev counter from working? .. Got a friends 2001 BB in the shed thats been off the road for quiet a while, R/R was fubar'd so replaced that ... have checked wiring and it measures were it should so we replaced the rev counter with a new one but it still don't work. Does the speed sensor play any part in the rev counter operation?

I don't know for sure but i doubt the speed sensor has anything to do with it as I think the rev counter works from negative signals from the coil on most engines or a crank sensor maybe.
FI faults I would guess are purely engine management issues and nothing else. clocks, rev counter, horn, lights, etc, etc do not play a part in engine management whatsoever as they are not required to run the engine.
I think you have a wiring fault rather than a component failure but dont hold me to it.![]()

Cheers Paul,
Reason I'm asking is that the wiring diagram in the haynes (book of lies I know!) manual shows the live feed to the revcounter coming directly from the ECU (revcounter should move according to whatever volts the ECU outputs) and was wondering where the ECU gets input from to determine what it outputs to the revcounter. thought this might be linked with the speed sensor but haven't a scobbie and thought about FI issues causing ECU output problems ....
Something I noticed is that the ECU is an ABS version ... not sure it's right for the bike ....

Another question if I may .... I'm not an FI man myself so do not know ... should the FI light come on when ignition is switched on? As this one doesn't ......

I have a wrong ECU in my Rover 820 Turbo.
Its a coded type and there are only two types of coded types for my particular year, Air conditioned and non air conditioned.
I bought the car when it was fitted with an earlier type ecu that ran the engine(sort of) but allowed the air conditioning to work.
I later came across a whole donor car which had the correct coded ECU but the car was not air conditioned and it made the air conditioning work constantly (even with the AC switched of !!!)
I made a small modification at the ECU plug to counteract this and I now sacrifice the automatic shut off of the air con when accellerating.
That car (I still have it) is seventeen years old and complicated enough at that age.
Trying to get around an electrical problem with incorrect components can be in some cases catastrophic.
I suspect the problem is most definitely with the incorrect ECU as the internal switching etc etc will not be the same as one without ABS.

Everything on the clocks self checks when the ignition is switched on including every increment/segment of the LCD that display the temperature, fuel level, time, speed etc etc.
This includes the FI light which distinguishes after the check leaving only the neutral and oil light illuminated as usual.
(neutral light will illuminate and then go out with the FI light if the neutral switch is faulty as I had this on my bird but its fixed nowand the neutral light stays on)
Ps, my bird starts up now too !
PPs, it would seem your ABS equipped ECU may be the problem with this too ?
