With the exception of slowing down or starting off from a stop, i do not initiate a wave. Safety first and all. Instead I usualy offer the "nod of acknowledgement" and usually get an understanding one in return. Happy to see I'm not the only one out there

Many times, I ride in very rural areas, and many times, I wave to EVERYBODY.
If there is an accident, or a broke down bike, there are times some of these ranchers may be your help. Besides, a little goodwill never hurt anybody to my knowledge.

I just returned from an other 1100 kms romp. I wave at everyone. I even wave a big rigs when out in the hinterland. Sometimes it's just 4 fingers on the clutch hand, sometimes I lift my hand low, sometimes high, sometime the Hawaii peace sign, sometime a thumbs up, etc. I even honk at cyclist who have the jam to ride across the continent. I'm just a happy camper when I'm out there touring. I'm now at 128,000 kms.

Silverbrd... The way they are making those scooters these days with the sculpted front ends they look a whole lot like a motorcycle.

I wave at all riders of powered two wheelers. I have to confess to waving my foot at someone yesterday. I was overtaking someone and accelerating and changing gear at the time though

ok. i was happy to read everything....
but then i read that long story on the first page (bloody awesome by the way..) and now im just too tired to read the rest lol
i rarely wave to anyone.
but i do give a nod to everyone on a motorbike.
back down south in Victoria, anyone on a sportbike would return it, anyone else would ignore it.
up here on the gold coast, most harleys ive come across ignore you, but for the most part everyone has returned it to me.
on the highway in the far right lane, if im in a hurry ill cross lanes and ever take everyone to get to where im going.
but sometimes ill wait and let them move over for me, if they do, i give them a little wave/thanks for doing so (cage or not)

oh, just to add....
stopping to help someone else on a bike... might just work out for you...
i was at a red light waiting to go straight, and opposite me was another bird waiting to go right (my left)
as he got green he conked out (later learnt that he has had trouble with his electrics and it died on him)
so it shutoff just as he got green and he walked it in a u-turn parking just up ahead of me.
i pulled over to see if i could help... lent my phone so he could call for a tow, got to talking with him about work (he repairs yachts etc), got his number with him telling me to give him a call if i wanted any extra cash.
couple weeks later i ended up losing my job (no fault of my own) so i gave him a call, was offered $20 an hour off the books...
only worked with him a month and a bit, but it was well worth pulling off the road for.

I wave at everyone out of camaradarie. For the Harley riders that don't wave back I give them the benefit of the doubt that it's taking every ounce of strength they can muster to stay on the road (what with all that rattling, vibration, wind turbulance, and the inherantly unstable platform).
On a side note, has anyone else noticed that it's getting harder and harder to differentiate between the Reflex scooters and the Ninja (the headlights are almost the same). I accidentally waved at one the other day |
