Im wondering how many people use there clutch when shifting up through the gears. I always used to do it till I talked to a few people that have been rideing for years and neither one of them do, so I changed and am still not sure if Im hurting the gearbox in anyway.

I on occasion will shift up through the gears without the clutch on mild acceleration. Hard acceleration is a big no-no. You will find all those neutral gears.

You aren't hurting the gear box at all as long as you arent banging it into gear. A slight ease off the throttle and shift up is what you are talking about right?

I prefer clutchless upshifts, but occationally (following slow traffic, riding with pillion etc) I use the clutch. Basicly, if I can't accelerate (mildly or aggressively) prior to the upshift, I use the clutch.

I always use the clutch cause I am paranoid of breaking something if I dont use it. I like to stack the odds in my favour so to speak....

I'm not interested in saving milli seconds so I use the clutch.

With a pillion on I always shift up 'clutchless' ..it smooths the change and avoids that 'occasional headbut' ... When I'm 'on song' I will 'blip' the clutch ...not a full pull but perhaps 1/4 ..I find that will avoid the false neutrals ..Honda boxes are notorious for being 'clunky'

The more aggressive I ride, the less likely I am to use the clutch. When performed correctly, a clutchless upshift will not cause excessive wear and tear..!

Hard acceleration is fine,in fact I find it's smoother at higher rpm.I have tried both styles at the strip and always go back to full throttle, blip the clutch no letting off because I seem to be more consistent that way. When I go clutchless I tend to slightly vary how much throttle I use but it feels smoother.I have missed shifts now and again and have no damage to the tranny,my 600 had a lot more abuse and never missed a beat.

I also shift up by slightly backing off the throttle I find it shifts easily and more smoothly. It doesnt do any damadge as far as I know. However I usually do this when the engine has warmed up a bit and the oil has had a chance to lubricate, which only takes a few minutes.I do clutch going from 1st to 2nd gear going up and also when changing down gears.

I go clutchless occassionaly but really prefer to use the clutch. Makes me feel more involved. I also like to see how smooth and precise I can make the shift feel trying all the while to make if feel like the CVT transmission in my car.

It always good to use the clutch to change gears but there deny that I sometimes the inclusion marches up not use that gives me a more rapid move from low to high speeds gaining speed very rarely happened to me to miss a gear and having to clutch!

I dont use the clutch much street bikes for the up shift....I use it alot on the down shift.

I use it perpetually on dirt or supermoto.
