Interesting. I wonder if one has to be good with a spanner to own the Guzzi.
600 lbs bikes make me nervous b/c I'm only 5'6" tall. Although I wouldn't own either I think I'd lean to the Guzzi.

..not anymore canadian ...they are improved in quality and reliability.. i can't remember if they still use Veglia instruments (hope not were not famous for their waterproof abilities......)....still lean to one side when applying the throttle...

as for the beamer...the harsch and rough gearbox always remind you that "is there"..adding the weird ergonomy of the handlebar swtches..never liked them...

As a long time Guzzi owner of many different models I also own an 07 Breva 1100 which is essentially a Norge w/o the plastic. The build quality on new Guzzis rivals any Japanese manufacturer today. If you are ever inclined to go this route I urge you to see and ride one. You wont be dissapointed.

As for the beemers, I agree with Bullet. I rented an r1150r in San Francisco for a week and it had the worst transmission and seat ever manufactured. Plus it sounded like a wimpy sewing machine. Guzzis sound better than ducatis with the right pipe IMO.

I have not ridden a Guzzi and would really like to.

I had a 2000 BMW 1100RT, and the transmission clunking made me hate to shift, but the suspension was the nicest of any bike I had ever ridden-it was smoother over road impefections than my car.

Haven't been on either of these models. They seem like they would be good and fun bikes but to me lean a bit too much to the touring side. They both look good too. If me I'd opt for a Concours or FJR1300 if looking for more of a Tour Sporter. I do have a question for RSJ since you have a Guzzi. I always wondered if your knees would get fried on one of those bikes because of the engine configuration. Do you notice a lot of heat around your knees?

Heat has never been a problem for me. Im 6' tall and dont have a prolem with my knees touching the heads. I would guess over 6'-4" though your in trouble.

As far as handling goes, my breva is so quick to turn that when I get on my bird I feel like it has a locked down steering stabilizer.

However when I jump from the bird to the breva it feels like I dragging a skid of bricks behind me.

2 different bikes for 2 different types of riding. If I could only have one though I'd probably give up the bird because the guzzi is just so well rounded.

Again I urge anyone even slightly interested to test ride one.

I spent an hour on a dealer's Norge. It was a sweet ride. Handled well once moving, a bit nose heavy at start-up speeds. The power plant is responsive and spools up well for a 2-hole air cooled lump, better than the R1200RT I tried a few days earlier but nothing like the K1200S I tried the same day. Wind protection is very good. The bike is beautiful, one of my current favorites especially in red. Luggage is OK. A good bike if you want to go slow and steady and a long way. Seating was comfortable. If I had to pick either the RT or the Norge, I'd go Moto Guzzi.
