My friends and I went for a Sunday afternoon ride today. Most of the time I am the only sport bike so I expect a leisurely ride, but today was different. One of them invited their friend on Hayabusa. It was nice having another sportbike in the small group of 4.
We got to the twisties and I asked him to lead. When the car ahead of us going same direction turned onto a another road, the guy whacked it. I cautiously followed. I am not very familiar with the road and neither is he, but the road was empty and this section was straight. It was was also clear/dry so conditions were right. I did not gain on him until I hit 115 and he had already started easing off. That 'Busa went to 30 to about 130 in a blink of an eye. I guess the BB is nearly that fast, but I have never tried so hard to keep up with someone until now. I can say: 1) Those 'Busas are fast, and 2) I guess I am a conservative rider.

Yes they are, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, but it is P.O.S. Suzuki that won't live a long life.

I rode with a busa about a month ago on one of our local canyon roads, I kept up with him until he highsided.

I went on a ride this summer with 9 other sportbikes - 8 riders of whom I just met (one guy on a Hayabusa). I must say, I was impressed with his riding demeanor. We never cracked 65MPH for the fist 30 slabbin' miles, but the ride got more spirited on the twisties near the ocean. However, I mostly rode clean-up with that Hayabusa and a 900RR. I did get to see some of the machine's abilities, but mostly we tooled around the back at 75-90. It was a pleasurable ride with some level-headed cats.

My most enjoyable rides are with people like that. Ran into a XX, a wing, and a busa at Deals Gap in October. We did the big loop with them in the lead. If they ran too far ahead of my group, they stopped. It was great fun, and we never had to worry about anyone crashing.

Those Busa's sure are quick. Never ridden with one being ridden hard on the road, but on the drag strip you just watch em walk away from you.

Level-Headed is the word here, gentlemen. It is really all about skill, and not much about the bike when we get into us average dudes on these high performance bikes. A very skilled rider on a 600 could probably toast a lot of BB riders in the twisties...

it's funny, I just did a 3rd gear roll-on with a busa this weekend and then I see the title of this thread....so here's my story.
The busa is stock but dropped a tooth in front. My '99 bird has PCII and MIGS, stock gearing. We hit third and I was with him for about 2 seconds. Then he just pulled a bike length and it was done. We ran them through 4th into 5th and quit. The bird was close but clearly slower, they have about 200cc more than we do. He had a '01 ZX-11 before that and he was surprised the bird hung as long as it did, 2 seconds. He kinda thought the XX was in the ZX-11 league, old school. He was impressed a bike 7 years old stayed as close as it did. Not many people know what a XX even is, even some Honda owners have never heard of it.

As a comparison, I recently sold my BlackBird and bought a Hayabusa. I've only had one ride on the new bike in the twisties, (It's that time of year when my favorite roads get covered with that white stuff) but I found that on that ride, I was consistently going faster while still remaining well within my 'comfort zone'
YMMV.
As far as reliability, I'll let you know, but I will say this. They Hayabusa engine has probably been modified, hot rodded and abused WAY more than the Blackbird. (I know of only a few people who have done much in the way of engine modifications to the Honda) The Hayabusa motor seems to stand up to this abuse just fine.
The engines on both of these bikes were designed with a lot of overkill. They are not like some of the new liter bikes, where everything is designed just as light as possible. They make their power without extreme amounts of compression or RPM. Both bikes are designed to run on 87 octane fuel.
Given the type of riding that I like to do, (mountain twisties and long distance rides) I expect my new bike to give me years of service, just like my BlackBird did.

Don't 'busas buzz and vibrate some? The last 2 that I rode (Action Motorsports-R.I.P.) seemed to tingle at different rpm, unlike my XX.

The Busa engine is a tuff one though and it will take alot of abuse.

If you're as meticulous about the maintenance of your bike as you are about the garage, it will last a lifetime!

A whole lifetime with an ugly, overinflated looking Suzuki It's gonna be a looooooong life...
No offense or anything, but that Busa is a seriously ugly bike. I just don't get the whole bubbalicious thing I guess. If it is any comfort, my ZZR buddy and I were at his parents house over the weekend. His mom asked us if we were going out to play with our Power Ranger cycles?

I rode with a Busa buddy last summer. He couldn't leave me and I couldn't leave him. There just isn't enough room on the roads around here to really
(safely) stretch them out anyway. I'll get a little distance on him in the really tight twisties but only because I think he's a little bit chicken or maybe it's because I'm a little less scared but honestly, off the dragstrip... I think they're pretty evenly matched... except for the way they look.
Yeah, yeah... I know... Beauty is only skin deep but ugly goes all the way to the bone. If it wasn't for the looks I would have bought one. But I figured that I already had an ugly woman so I damn sure as hell ain't gettin' no ugly motorcycle!

I'm glad I married a beauty and I'm going to stress this with my sons. Of course, it is better to live with a sweet but ugly woman than a pretty beeaatch, if you know what I mean. If you can get a sweet and beautiful woman, and ride a BB, you have it made! I'm gonna go hug myself! |

and skis-
and golfs-
You get the picture.
I think I'll hug myself too.
