In the video, you can see a red liter-class sportbike with a helmet hung on the mirror stalk, and they are hoisting what may have been a Hayabusa onto a tow truck.
A 19-year-old girl and a 43-year-old man died at the scene.... daaaaayumn.... |

On a straight, open highway, with only the bikes involved, and eight or more being involved, we can reasonably deduce that they were probably following too closely and/or going too fast for the distance they were spaced. I know that stretch of highway because I used to travel it every day for over a year while I worked in the next city over.

It is very, very sad.You have to be very, very carefull about who do you ride with on the group rides. Most of the times I just hang on the tail,I save speed for the race track. This way I won`t get rearended by another bike.

That is very sad to hear. Godspeed to those riders.
However, the article indicated ten bikes with thirteen people. Huh???

I now know why I tend to get nervous riding in a group more than 4-5 bikes.
Very sad, and preventable. They were probably following too close or closing in too fast, reducing reaction time.
I was a witness and near participant in one of these involving all sportbikes. The cause of that: Rider Inattention/Distraction.

They updated the story a bit. It was caused when a rider on one bike ran into the back of another bike, killing him, and the passenger of the bike he hit. The rest crashed when they swerved to miss the crash.
On the news just now, they said that they were all members of a new biker club based in Raleigh called "Unleashed Aggression". The president of the club had no comment.

Not a club name that gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling, especially to non bikers.
I hope the president and other officers of the club do not end up as defendants in a lawsuit.

Still and all, this is pretty tragic... I have two daughters close to the age of the 19-year-old girl that was killed.... shit really hits home when you hear about tragedies like this.
Bet the families of the dead are going to take this and all future holiday seasons in quite a different light... |
