I was having a discussion with someone about "fast" motorcycles, and in my opinion, most are faster than I "need" to go on a daily basis.
However, the individual I was speaking to told me that a custom cruiser/chopper motorcycle is just as fast as the fastest production motorcycle (the y2k)
He cited "Torque" (yes, that horribly inacurate and rediculous movie) as his basis for this claim, and since the antagonist was able to keep up with the y2k doing 200mph+ that choppers are faster than sport bikes...
has anyone else seen this movie?
I recently watched it at a friend's house (who also rides) and we basically spent the whole time picking apart rediculous stunts...
an example here... YouTube - Torque: The Great Movie
about 45 seconds into it:
(I didn't know you could turn a bike on it's axis while doing a wheelie by simply turning the handle bars...)

You need to stop trying to have intelligent conversations with people who are clearly retarded.
Citing a movie as a basis for what motorcycles are and are not capable of is like citing a Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck cartoon for the survivability of a direct shotgun blast to the face.

Ohh yes that is true.. Choppers are even faster than superbikes!
Have you heard the other one?
Moto GP champion Valentino Rossi will move to another team next year, and guess what is he gonna be riding...
YES YOU HAVE GUESSED RIGHT!
He is gonna be riding a chopper bike because is faster in the straights, faster in the corners and more stable on the "S"s . Hallooo? Anybody home? |

The only way a chopper can be faster than a sports bike is if it was strapped aboard the space shuttle
FYI: MTT- Turbine SUPERBIKE, Y2K bike, Jet Bike, Jay Leno’s motorcycle

Do you know why so many people ride cruisers? They don't take much skill to operate.

Yepper, I'm with Boimetrix...I think that I saw this in a movie (Armaggedon)... Isn't this where the coyote straps the rockets to his back. As I recall it didn't work out too well for the coyote.
Nasa dude says... We have better rockets.
I too did see parts of that goofy movie torque. My favorite part is when the two chicks are fighting on their motorcycles. They are doing a high rate of speed and the one chick takes her hands off of the throttle and bitch slaps the other chick. Last time I took my hand off the throttle at a high rate of speed my bike dropped out of warp. They also have a nice dual wheelie scene where they have the two bikes duking it out with each other. What a hoot.

LOL! yeah, that was another part my friend and I were cracking up about...
they pull opposing wheelies, and slap the front tires against each other.
HILARIOUS

Dont forget the part of the movie where they were going through the palms. They rode there on cafe style bikes and once they got into the palm tree forest they had motocross bikes with plastic fairings on them to make it look like they were still on cafe bikes. I was laughing my ass off |

| SO ARE YOU GUYS SAYING THAT HOLLYWOOD MISREPRESENTED SOMETHING OR TOOK LIBERTIES WITH SPECIAL EFFECTS AND CG?!?!?!?!?!? SHOCKING! ARE HOBITS REAL? I think they're real? movies like torque, biker boyz, and even easy rider (or my fave "Girl on a Motorcycle") are MOVIES for us to escape into for a while........if you want or can. Or at least that's what I considered them.....entertainment for when I need to go numb. OH shit! I just noticed most you guys are kids so you're probably escaping into video games .....(something I wish I could do better) and the the silver screen to be reality. Reality to me, is racing (see my colin edwards post in the Racing Forum) or Nitro Circus. See........It always comes to me eventually!!!!

I work with CSI type technology (fingerprints, AFIS systems). People watch the shows like CSI and NCIS and they think everything they see is real and works just like the slick GUIs they show on TV. If I try to tell them it's not really like that they're like "oh yea, sure it's not, you just don't want us to know what's really out there"....whatever |

Dude maybe it is me but the original post was a discussion about a guy who thinks that shit is real and saying stupid ass stuff he has really no clue what the hell he is saying.
I am pretty sure that most of us on here know for a fact that stuff is Hollywood fantasy it is just funny as hell that there are people out there that have no idea and believe everything they see on the big screen.
I am not trying to pick an arguement here we are just having some fun with a dumb ass movie. |

Well, the movie did include some "facts" and seemed as thought it was trying to represent reality...
I believe it was intentionally misleading...
But it WAS hilarious...
I had so much fun tearing that movie apart
