Yep: I just ordered not one, but two Skully AR-1 helmets!! Both are Arctic White Gloss, size M, because me, my wife, and our daughter all wear the same size helmet. The girls will share one, I get one to myself. Estimated Shipping: Summer 2016.

Let the flame wars begin...

I've had my eyes on this one as well, but my experience tells me I need to try it on first... The fit needs to be good or close to perfect - otherwise I'll just end up regretting it!
I hope you find it all to your liking! - I know the gear/tech part of me really savours this kind of equipment!
Looking forward to hearing your experience with this one!

Great thinking and amazing tech. Just worried about 2 points, first I am not sure if I want to carry a battery on my head and second I really wonder if a GPS device should be that close to my brain.

No intention of bad mouthing the helmet, just curious how they passed most of the health and safety issues. Any thoughts?

I forgot to mention that I got the white ones because I figure all my riding is going to be in the sun, and the black ones may be too hot. I like the look of the black ones better, but I think I'll be happier with white. So I'm buying other gear to match the helmets. :)

BTW, cost of the helmets "over here" is $1500US each. Interestingly, I placed the order and checked out, and they charged me $60 shipping! I dunno...feels a bit insulting; after spending $3k you're gonna charge me shipping? When I can buy a $5 item off ebay from China and get free shipping? I let them know how I feel and haven't heard back yet.

I have no idea how these are going to fit, but I've been jonesing for them since I heard about them, and now I've been blessed with the money to get them, so I decided to just go for it. I am hopeful that if they don't fit quite right that I'll be able to ask them for some thinner / thicker padding and they'll overnight the right stuff to me for free. Because that's what a world-class organization does, right? (Hint, hint Skully...)

I will for sure review them here once I get them, but I am apparently "order #1264" or something like that, so I have a feeling there will be a ton of reviews out on youtube for your viewing pleasure before I ever even get mine!

In the meantime, I'm rockin' my $65 Bilt helmet from Cycle Gear. :)

Guess I'll be rockin' the Bilt for about 5 more months; I just got an update from Skully saying that the soonest I'll see my helmets is in August. They're having supply chain issues. In the meantime, they are making some improvements after getting feedback from the first customers who have used the helmets in the real world. Better display, longer-life battery, and a "more rounded fin". They also said "we are upgrading your shipment to include an exclusive SKULLY collector case and travel battery pack. These will keep your AR-1 safe and charged wherever the road takes you." Hopefully that's for each helmet! :)

So...that's where we're at with that! No review from me for another 5-6 months.

Very cool gear! I wonder how many centuries it will be before the road nazis will accept this as a option to a conventional mirror. I could see a option as moving the battery and electronics to a module that would ride in your pocket to reduce weight. Very cool stuff!

Uh...??? Where'd you hear they're going under? The CEO got booted out and another guy stepped in, true, but that doesn't mean they're shutting down. And I've been getting shipping updates as recently as last week...

Only reported through tech media at this point, the news broke today. Could be false information.
https://techcrunch.com/2016/07/26/o...helmet-startup-skully-has-crashed-and-burned/
TechCrunch reports: "Operations have ceased within the company, and we're told the website will be turned off at some point today. [Skully's CEO and co-founder Marcus Weller] has also been asked to sign a confidentiality deal with investors. Weller told TechCrunch today he will not sign and that he's completely walked away from all dealings with the company as of 10 days ago. The site is still up for now but it saysSkully's AR-1 helmet is sold out in every size and no one is able to order. A source tells us sales were cut off on Monday. The shutdown leaves several vendors and Skully's manufacturer Flextronics with unpaid bills and at least 50 full-time employees out of a job. It's unclear if any of the vendors will be paid. That also means the more than 3,000 people who pre-ordered a helmet may never get one -- and one source tells us it's doubtful any of them will be receiving a refund."

Hmmm...yeah, just found that and a plethora of other "news". Yikes...guess I'll sit it out and wait for the class-action to get my money back. Or maybe I really will get my helmets, and then it'll be like owning a Sparrow. :)

Although not quite a Skully i got in on this kickstarter helmet system last November. App is up and running and received the handlebar control and bluetooth headset last week. Camera coming soon. Full price is $549, i got it early for $240 on a VFRD early group buy.

I've had the fusar.com site bookmarked for a couple months now, wondering if I should pull the plug on my Skully purchase and get my money back. Wish now that I would have done just that!

At the same time...there's no guarantee that Fusar isn't going to experience the same death as Skully. So I hope very much for your sake that they can get that camera built and shipped to you!! That's over a year of waiting for you. I'm sure glad you at least got the headset and bar control!

Thanks! Getting the money back shouldn't be *too* hard (may be a long wait, but will probably eventually get it back); I'm just bummed they didn't bring it to market. I mean, come on...a HUD built into my helmet? That's just cool. :D

I'm currently looking into the Fusar line of products, but will *not* be doing any more "pre-ordering"! I've learned my lesson.

Now I have to begin the search for a good helmet for me and my girls. The choices are almost overwhelming. I guess that's a good thing. :)

I like both Skully and Fusar Mohawk ideas (altho Skully seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen to me) ...for me there was also the issue of
being legal in one state/province and not in the next one you ride into.

The bigger issue of course is "Beta product fundraising" :nono:....basically pre selling the idea of the product before licencing is complete and the product completed and both these companies
are in the midst of raising funds from the public by preselling an incomplete product that may or may not make it to market.

I'd bet this Mohawk camera will be a welcome safety for most Governments etc. but I bet that's where Skully got into trouble.
Now if the included a radar detector into the camera I'd be an owner for sure!! :thumb:

My Fusar app updates every week adding more functions etc. Headset and handlebar control came last week so it seems camera release is imminent. As with most kickstarter projects you take a chance. Bit like putting your money in a bank acc, if they fold...... hard luck.

Yeah, I got the official email yesterday from Skully saying they are shut down and filing bankruptcy, and don't know if there will be any money left to refund anybody.

Well, live and learn. I'm pursuing a fraud claim with my credit card company since I wasn't part of the startup funding; I was a legitimate customer.

So now I need a helmet. ?

Looking at the Shoie X14 and the yet to be released Bell race star (not pro).

*sigh* Good thing I didn't remove my mirrors!! ?

Hi Wild, not so good news about the Skully. I've been lusting after one of them since they were announced.

If you don't have any luck with getting money back, you can use what you paid for the Skully's as "credit" on the Fusar units.

https://fusar.com/blogs/news/an-open-letter-to-skullys-customers

Not quite the same, but may help you out.

I was in contact with Ryan, the CEO at Fusar, on the 27th. I had sent some questions thru the generic form, and he personally emailed me back to answer them. We emailed back and forth several times and he learned that I'd ordered a couple Skullys when I balked at buying the Fusar camera before it actually hits the streets. He responded by saying he's sure bummed about the whole Skully thing, and then said "In fact, I'm going to speak with my CFO today to see if we can come up with a special offer for Skully customers who were burned". Then he offered me a generous discount on the gear that they are currently shipping.

And now this? Wow; first class! I just signed up to see what exactly the program is.

Adeyren, you may be seeing me on the Fusar app soon. :)

Though I'm confident that this technology isn't far out from a reputable company. One of the helmet manf. or tech investors (Intel maybe) will offer to buy out the patent to use as a foundation and add proprietary code.

I hope you get your money back though man, that is really shitty to do to people. I've been through something similar back in the day but only lost $300 on a startup tech...now I wait till 2 gen at least before purchasing. 1 gen typically has "kinks" they need to work out once a solid user base has a chance to put the tech through the ringer if you will.

Wow; good read! My wife is a Dave Ramsey certified Financial Counselor, and has always been good with money. Over the years, we've discovered the sad fact that almost *every* business failure (and of course every business or personal bankruptcy) can be traced back to poor money management.

Back in the day, I was super excited about the Merlin Roadster (remember those?). But the inventor became the CEO (first mistake!!) and wasted all the company money on personal stuff (or so the media says...). They folded, and a *fantastic* idea died. (But hey; now we have the Spyder!!)

I didn't think this was going to be the same thing; I was naive in thinking that a "pre-order" was as good as gold...I thought it meant that all was well, the product is ready to ship, they're just having trouble keeping up with the orders; kind of like a backorder. guess not! My bad for not investigating further.

Well, no more "pre-orders" for me! Which stinks, because I *really* want to pre-order a Bell Race Star helmet. :) Ain't gonna happen...I'll wait, or just buy the X-14. Nah...I'll wait. :D
