'04 ZX6R Starter issues?

Okay, a friend of mine has an '04 ZX6R (636) that got some bad gas in it (full of water). Her and a friend of mine drained the gas out of it and refilled it with new gas and tried to fire it up. It turned over for a while, coughed, and quit turning over. Now when she hits the starter button it just gives two loud clicks (almost snaps) and does nothing. They tried to boost the bike but the results were the same.

I speculated (having not seen the bike) that it was either a burnt out starter (from all the cranking) or a toasted battery.

I have been thinking about it for a couple of hours now and was wondering if anyone has any insight to add to this situation as she has track school this coming weekend and it'd be a shame for her to miss it and the bike is too far away from me, geographically, for me to look at it myself.
