There was a motorcycle racer that deliberately blew up his motorcycle whilst leading a championship race.

Does anyone know something about this?
Perhaps who it might have been?

I managed to find out that the gentleman was a racer for MZ and won a couple of championships for East Germany.

Managed to get the name ernst Degner - defected from East Germany with parts and blueprints on MZ technology. He then joined Suzuki and that was the beginning of Suzuki's winnings

Another q - carbon black was replaced by something, what was it and when did we see this change appearing on tyres?

Now I know that silica is now getting used in the tyre thread, as a replacement for carbon black, but I'm not sure when this started - perhaps CompK tyre from metzeler 1987?

But were they the first to use silica in tyres?
