I'm one of those riders that does the little biker wave to anyone on a motorcycle. Most Harley guys wave back but the hardcore guys of course usually just cold shoulder me. If their handlebars are above their ears I usually don't bother. But for sure I return a wave if I recieve one. I don't usually think to wave at scooters riders because well.... they're scooter riders, and they usually don't try to instigate a wave in my experience. So today I'm out riding and this guy comes the other way on a scooter and gives me this huge energentic wave sorta like in this emoticon > <... hehe. But my hand didn't even budge and I was even laughing in my helmet a little...I just couldn't wave to that silly little bastard . Do any of you give scooters the satisfaction of wave or am I just a meanie?
PART 2 :
This just reminded me of a funny wave story. I was sitting at a stoplight on my bike and this young guy crosses the intersetion in front of me on an old Seca or something... Having just started accelerating from a stop, he sees me and takes his THROTTLE HAND off the bars to wave and the sudden slow down made it look like he just about whacked his head on his dash
okay sorry for the long post, I'm done |

Hmmmmm, wave to scooters.....or...no wave to scooters.
I find myself giving the rider low-hand to all the guys I pass on the way to work, which is usually a dozen or more. We recognize each other now, and it doesn't seem to matter what we're on. The sport bike guys( and girl), the HD guys, etc.
They probably don't know it's the same guy riding the red XX one day and the flat black '79 650 special with cafe bars the next. They just know the guy goin east at 6am waves everyday.
The scooter riders won't wave. I gave up on these people long ago.

Does anyone else wave to oncoming bikers when in the car? Found myself doing this a few times |

I don't wave to cruisers or scooters, unless they initiate it. I tried to wave at a chopper once and actually got the finger in return. Nice guy. I have waved at bikes from my truck before, after they passed me and waved. Of course my back windows are covered in bike stickers.

I wave to anyone who waves to me first. However, I am not so energetic in initiating waves as I am tired of getting blown off by Harley and scooter riders alke.

Well, now that you mentioned it, on this mornings 350kms jaunt, I waved 27 times, nodded my head 15 times, and raised my fingers 15 times. 8 times I ignored the rider b/c I was too heeled over, or scratching my nuts. |

I wave at everybody. If you're on 2 wheels, I wave! If they don't wave back I asume they did not see my fellow biker signal(Low 2 fingers extended to say keep it on 2). If I know they saw me, I just call them a few nice names to myself and keep riding. Because really, I'm riding for me, and as long as I'm having fun that's all I really care about. But I also live on an Air Force base and all us bikers tend to know each other anyway .

In my area of Georgia we wave to each other from our cars. Same with bikes. If they don't wave back,.... Who Cares.
I'll wave a scooters too. Seen some cuties on scooters at the beach.
And yes, I do find myself waving to bikes when I am in the car.

I wave at every bike I see. Here in the South we try to wave at everyone-at least I do. I have seen some Harley guys/gals who will not wave but most of them do.

I give a 2 finger wave to most bikers except Harleys, unless they wave first but find most don't. Scooter folks don't seem to be real bikers and don't have clue in the first place. Always get a wave from sport bikes though. A nod will do at red light.

It seems that the Hardley guys are just too busy being patriotic. Scooter people are clueless. |

Now, now,
Scooter people are just aspiring bikers! Give them a friendly nod and point them in the right direction. Besides, anyone riding a scooter in traffic is just one less cager you have to deal with.
Having just come back from Italy a few weeks ago,
I can honestly say that they are just as talented (or crazy) riding scooters over there as the rest of us!
Wave to everyone, we are all two wheel bretheren facing the same laws of physics, and the same traffic hazards,..........................just at different speeds!

We wave two-up and have found that regardless of the ride other two-ups will almost always wave back, Harleys wave only when they see my passenger, and Goldwings still hesitate to pull off the bars.
We were surprised by the number of cager wavers in California. Must be that two-piece riding suit she wears.

I wave, but only in the middle of corners, the sharper the better. Funny to watch some of the cruiser riders, to whom proper body position involves highway pegs, take a hand off the bar and nearly run off the road. Sporty types just wave back, HD riders just don't understand.
