If any of you have a chance to do one of the Buell Inside Pass Trackdays I suggest you give it a try. For $150 I spent almost all day beating the shit out of a Buell. I could have ridden a Buell for each one of my sessions but I wanted to do a few on my own bike. It’s the closest thing to being a Factory Rider I’ll ever see. They supplied Breakfast, Lunch and beverages all day. They have you sign a few waivers but reading through them they basically say you won’t sue them if you get hurt on one of the bikes they provide. Nowhere did I see anything that states alludes to “You Break it, you bought it” or anything about being responsible for the damages. Granted, if you go out on the track and act like an idiot and break track rules or do something really stupid they may come after you.
Out of all the Buells I rode today the only one I’d consider buying is the Ulysses. Plenty of comfort and stable as hell in the corners. The others were way too cramped for my liking. I missed a lot of shifts purely because I couldn’t operate the Shift Lever because it was too cramped for this 41 year old fat guy in tight leathers with bad knees.
Coming off an I-4 I found myself bouncing off the Rev Limiter A LOT. Straights, corners, it didn’t matter. Unless I was looking at the Tach on every shift I’d rev out. I’ve hit a lifetimes worth of Rev Limiters in just one day. Thank God the things don’t cut out violently. Otherwise the corners could get scary. 6000RPM Redline or whatever the hell it is just doesn’t cut it. The Super TT would be my second choice. It seemed to pull harder than the Uly but the ergos were too cramped for my tastes. The Pegs feel like they are 2” closer to the Seat.
Anyway, it was a lot of fun for $150, especially considering they pretty much supplied bikes to me all.
There is another one here in Sept. I won’t miss it.
Am I going to run out and buy a Buell? Not likely but I had fun beating the hell out of them.
Oh yea, the Novice Group had a no passing in the corners rule up until Lunch. After lunch they got to have as much fun as the rest of us. I guess they decided that everyone was doing fine and turned them loose. All Demo Riders regardless of the Group were instructed to not pass the Control Rider. From what I could tell there was no heartache over that as those guys set a fast pace. I think most of the Advanced Trackday guys had a rough time keeping up with those guys. They really didn’t seem too worried about their bikes getting romped or trashed.
