| My husband, Vern, went down lastnight. First of all, he's okay. He was wearing full gear, and ended up with only a broken collar bone and he got banged up pretty good, but otherwise he's okay. The bike on the other hand bike is totalled. Cager in a van in front of us kept speeding up to 40 then slowing down to 20, then all of a sudden, the guy slams on the brakes and comes to a complete stop in front of us, not on the side, right in the middle of the road. So we wait to see if he's gonna start moving again. We waited for about 30 seconds and he doesn't move, so Vern (he was riding on the left side of the lane, I was on the right) rides up to the driver side window and they exchange some words and I see the guy wave his hand, so I figured he was waving us on. My husband rode around to the front of the van, I started to pass on the left side of the van, and the guy takes off behind Vern. So I hung back. The guy comes to a stop again, my husband waves me around, I try to pass on the left again, the guy swerves to cut me off for the second time, and almost rams into my husband to get in front of him again. Well, Vern takes off after the guy to get the plates, and the guy slams on the brakes and comes to a stop in the middle of the road. My husband hits his brakes, and must have hit some gravel or dirt (there is a new housing development right at this site) he said that his front tire was "skipping". All of a sudden I see his bike go to the right, hit the grass, then spin in the air, and he flew up and to the left, landing on the other side of the road and rolled into the ditch (thank god there was no oncoming traffic). When I look at his bike, I know it could have been so much worse. I'll treasure every moment of his moaning and bitching and having to do everything for him these next few weeks while he heals. I'm just thankful that I still have him. BTW we still plan on going to Hookers XX, not sure if we can salvage the bike (brother- in-law says it's a go, but I'm not sure) but we may just suck it up and get another. He's definitely gonna be riding again soon, just not sure on what. Oh, and I'm okay. I'm a little surprised that I didn't freak out since the whole crash happened right in front of me, but I'm running on empty right now, didn't sleep at all last night, cried a little while I watched him sleeping, knowing that I came very close to losing my husband, my best friend, my heart, my life.
Sorry, I'm so tired I forgot to post some pics of the bike. Here they are:

Very sorry to hear about this.
Glad he's going to be alright, the bike can be repaired easy enough.
Good that this won't ruin his riding season.
Give my best wishes on a speedy recovery and let us know if there's anything he needs.

Sorry to hear about the accident. I am red in the face right now, because as I am sure many will agree, we deal with jerks like this all too frequently. Have my conceal carry permit here in Dallas, and thinking about carrying for just this type of event.
All the best to you and Vern and I hope he recovers quickly.

Bikes can be replaced, people can not. Glad he is (relatively) okay.

Sorry to hear about the crash. Glad you are both OK.
Wife and I had a simular problem on that "dangerous" LOOP US129 near Suches last year.
We didn't go down, but a church van played that game and tried to run her off the road.
Hope Vern heals soon.

Kuulei, It sounds like Vern is going to get plenty of TLC from you as he heals.
As to his XX, kindly keep us informed as to the status of the rebuild/repair as it progresses. I'm sure that some members might be able to donate a few items/time to help out.
BTW,
Was the bike insured?

Thank God it wasn't worse. It very well could have been. That really pisses me off. Glad you were both ok (for the most part).
