Well guys, another Daytonasportbikes.com rider went down last Sunday 3-11. He was riding w\two other group members thru a Walmart parking lot, when a woman in a minivan just backed right out in front of him, running over his bike & sending him somersaulting over the van. He landed on his feet, but shattered his leg & his pelvis resulting in a rod w\5 screws running down his leg, & a plate in his pelvis. He is starting his recovery, & his spirits are very high considering all.
Just remember guys...those "cagers" aren't always watching out for us...be careful out there!!!

I always hate to hear about a rider down, hopefully he will recover fully and quickly.

And people wonder why I have an air horn on my bike...

Wow thats messed up.

Sounds like a hellacious crash for a Walmart parking lot though...
How fast was he or the other driver going?

Don't get me started. Every time I read of a biker hit by a vehicle I instantly feel rage. It just seems so preventable. Prayers for him, sounds like his injuries will heal. I hope he hangs in there mentally and doesn't give up the ride. God bless.

Just an update...rode to the hospital last night for a visit, he's doing good, sitting up, doing therapy now, moving his toes\feet, off the morphine drip & on the pain pills now. They pulled out the catheter last night , was in some pain, but hangin' in there.
Thanks for the support guys.

OK, God take care of him.

We have a minivan.... To me minivans are for people who can't drive. That is the people I consider enthusiastic drivers don't like being behind the wheel of one. (It's like driving a brick).

I always try to keep an extra watch on anything like aminvan.

Was she talking on a cell phone? Sorry for the mini rant.

sad to here about the accident. Tell him to stay in physical therapy as long as he can. It will help later in life. Our bodies let us know we hurt many years after the injuries.
I try to avoid Walmart parking lots altogether. People just do not look around. There are also to many moms with mutiple kids in there cars distracting them.

I've read 2 stories this week of riders in my area being killed. It is sad. I do believe people in cars, etc are not ready for bikes on the road, and here in Boston drivers are the most rude, inconsiderate f**ks. They would kill you just to get an extra few feet closer to a red light! Stay sharp, ride defensively bros, and have a great season!

Yea, it's pretty bad here in FL. We've got all the "blue hairs" that can't see over the steering wheel of their caddy's or lincoln's, then we get the "snowbirds" down from Oct-Apr...again, more blue hairs that are just waiting to die. Most of the time they don't even know where they are, especially when they're behind the wheel.
Ride defensively out there guys!!

Wow, glad he's mostly OK!

About cagers in parking lots... my little brother was behind a car waiting on a parking spot, and while he was sitting there, a car backed out of its spot, right directly into the side of the Caprice... right smack in the B-pillar. With the size of that car, and where she hit it, the car was sitting still and would have been fully visible in all mirrors, and through the back window...

Is it me or does it look like the frame snapped right on a weld?

Nope! That's right down the center of the weld. It is the most common break point on allow frames. Steel is different. The frames are massively strong under normal riding stresses but when it goes wrong the weakest point is the weld. That is why they dont have too many straight welds if they can avoid it.

I wish him a speedy recovery. One of my co-workers had a friend who broke his pelvis in a motorcycle accident. He was in traction in the hospital for 6 months. It's a long ordeal. My prayers have been sent for your friend.

Sorry to hear that this happened. You would think that in FL people would be used to seeing motorcyclists riding around all the time (I lived there a long time ago) but here in IL it gets really scary this time of year. People are not used to seeing motorcycles on the road, and they DO NOT see them, even in broad daylight. A friend of a friend was killed about a week ago by an oncoming van that turned left right into his path. Middle of the day, and he was riding a Road King, and according to my friend that knew the guy, he rode with high beams and the aux "driving lights" on all the time during the day.

Another problem the cagers have down here is once they realize they've pulled out in front of you, they slam on the damn brakes!!! If they would just be smart enough to step on the gas & keep going alot of the accidents could be avoided.
