Just wondering if many people have mastered the art of bringing up the front tire. Mine has a lot of power, but never seems to lift up even if I let it out. How is your bird??

Drop your front sprocket to a 16 and she will be a breeze to ride on one wheel ..........but that would be WRONG WRONG WRONG, I would never even consider doing such an incredibly irresponsible act!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stock gearing will do it easily also. Just get to about 6k on the tach, then twist the throttle hard, but be ready!!

Yes, around 6K will getcha right. I've had mine on the back tire from 1st to 2nd, snatched 3rd and she landed smoothly at 70mph.

I have lifted her up in 2 gear 1 or 2 on stock gearing, 8 - 8,5k throttle back then hit the gas.
And plenty of times in 1 gear 5-6k and full throttle.
Newer shifted between gears in the air, only been riding for 2 years.
And sorry for my English not my strong point.

I've power wheelied the XX a lot but those are little 6"-10" wheel ridin up as I lay the power down really hard.

I've not tried to 12'o clock it much and genrally just slap the front down too hard.

If I want to hoist one I do it in the dirt as the penalty factor is much less.

throttle chop in first will send the front wheel up and clutching the bird up in 2nd is pretty easy to do with the 16t front. once the wheel is up high the xx has the power to keep it up. however getting a 500 pound sportbike up to its balance point is the scariest part. remember that smoothness is key, not reving the nuts off. my xx has about 80 pounds of torque my girlfriends f4i has 44. so naturally the 600 needs to be reved more. the xx has tons of torque so about 6800 to 7300 rpm is all thats needed when clutching up in 2nd on the xx.

I had an old friend (older than me , even) who had a background in dirt-tracking (ala Springfield) and drag racing, who often made it clear that wheelstanding was tantamount to grandstanding & crowd-pleasing - but it was slow and ate time. That he could do it was not an issue; it was just that he'd rather be fast (or faster - and win) than "pretty". He did his best not to "bring it up" because it slowed him down... but sometimes he couldn't help it. He could bring the front tire up 1-2" at launch and seemingly just keep it there as he barely skimmed the rest of the track... it was a beautiful thing to behold. He could do it with damn near any powerful bike - it was just pure skill - and he'd squeeze the best times out without breaking anything. A quiet and unassuming guy, he never flaunted his talent - he probably could have gone pro, but for him it was just fun.

He passed on at 80 in May of last year... Regretfully, I hadn't seen him in a number of years... I'll always be sorry that I had no opportunity to say good-bye. But I have no doubt he beat any competition to those Pearly Gates - and kept the front end down to boot!

When you do bring the bike up to 6k to chop the throttle, don't accelerate too fast. If you have too much momentum the bike just squats and takes off with the front planted on the ground. Take it fairly easy up to 6k, back of a fraction, then apply some heavy throttle.

But Ski --

In general I've got this rule about people who kill for a living - I don't **** with them and (hopefully) they don't **** with me. It's worked pretty good so far.

The 1098 will be in on Monday the 12th. I will be there at 8:30 am. My uncle works at Ducati, and is letting me fully document (recording, pics) from uncrating to fully-assembled. I will put up some pics. I've been following the 1098 from inception, through design, to final product. It's very hard to get info on a prototype bike from Ducati. They are EXTREMELY guarded. My uncle has been generous, including the discount on the assembly. I'm UBER excited!
