I would love to do the old route 66 or East to West. To take my bike there is to expensive. What options do I have, other than purchasing a bike over there......NO Harley options...I dont have the toolkit (cold chisel and a hammer...lol) btw fuel here is Aus $1.20 per litre.
Cheers
Mossy
How many days, taking it easy... does it take to get from West to East? Or should I go the opposite way?

Not alot of options on the east coast for sport bikes. Goldwings are readily available with advanced reservations in most major cities.
Many more options on the west coast for sport bikes or so I am told.

You might take a look at: Eaglerider - Harley Davidson Reservations
They now handle bikes other than H-D.

Made a trip from DC to Utah a few years ago, not on the bike though, took us about 5 days, stopping & screwin around.

| The Mother Road: Historic Route 66 - Turn by Turn Road Description
It's about 2200 miles (I think).
I know some that can do that in just a few days. To do it justice and not get yourself in a bind and still see some stuff I think a week plus a day or two and you'd be good. I'm a hard rider that does 700 miles days regularly and on end so take that for what it's worth.
BTW - I live a couple miles off 66 in Tulsa and require you to stay with me as toll for going through my state!

dunedain you bring up a good idea. There are a lot of us that are close to R66 so I will offer up my living quarters for a stay if you should come over and do the trip Mossy, could save you a little cash. Just thought I would offer.

Could be a great ride. Be aware that rte 66 doesn't exist everywhere anymore. It was replaced by Interstate 40. However, you can come close, and you'd see some beautiful country. Not to mention some crazy Americans! |

Give yourself a week to see all the great sites that America has to offer. There are ALOT of great places to visit within 100-200 miles of rte 66, north and south of it. A couple hour detour can land you is some amazingly beautiful locations along the way.

calif-motorcyclerental.com offers many packages depending on time, distance, etc. I would fly into L.A., and grab one of their BMW's. (the GS would make an excellent mount) Ride west to east. My personal opinion is the west offers the best riding. I seem to have the best memories out west. They used to offer an L.A. pickup, Chicago, or N.Y. drop-off.
